Condolence From: Tony and Christine McGettigan
Condolence: Our thoughts, prayers and fond memories go to Rose and her family. I always think of Rosa as the young girl who had the fire in her belly to travel from Ireland bound to New York and the patience in her heart to build a life in Gander, Newfoundland, where she stopped along the way. May she rest in peace and her family find peace and serenity in her passing Tony and Christine

Condolence: We both have such fond memories of Aunt Rose. She was truly a wonderful person with a zest for life, a captivating storyteller and a great sense of humor. She touched the hearts of all who knew her. The world is a better place because she was in it. To all of her family our thoughts are with you. As you reflect on her life we hope it warms your hearts and make you feel very proud to know what a great lady your Mom and Grandmother was.

Condolence: I met Aunt Rose and Uncle Doug a couple of times as I was growing up during their occasional visits to Europe and, in 1977 at the age of 19, stayed with them in Gander, enjoying a snowy, post-Christmas vacation during which I met Mary Rose and various friends and neighbours. From those various meetings, I recall Rose as a warm and caring person who treated me as if I was one of her own children. My sincere condolences to Paul, Judy and Mary Rose, Ethna and all others who loved and cared for her.

Condolence From: Wendy & Gerry Goulding
Condolence: Paul, Judy, Mary Rose, Ethna & families... I will certainly miss the visits I have shared over the years with your parents. There was a lot of time spent and great memories made at 135 Memorial Drive. When my own girls would join me & visit them, during the summer or at Christmas, Rose & Doug always had some special candy or chocolate for them, while I got to hear some pretty interesting stories of our neighbourhood! They sure had a lot of fun! They enjoyed each other's company, took care of one another and are together again. I will treasure my memories always. Wendy xo

Condolence From: Jeanette Walsh
Condolence: On behalf of Marilyn Beaton and myself I want to extend our deepest sympathy at the loss of your mother. She graciously agreed to be interviewed for our book along with Mrs Cheeks. I had the pleasure of spending a wonderful Sunday afternoon talking to them both about coming to Newfoundland and their first impressions. They were a delight to talk to! As they recalled their memories they laughed and giggled like two young school girls and my comment to Marilyn after the interview was that I hoped when I got to their age I would have a friendship similar to that shared by your mother and Mrs Cheeks. It was my only encounter with your mother but a memorable one. It was very evident that she was a wonderful nurse and I can only imagine that the gifts she brought to her profession were also those she brought to her role as mother. Sincerely, Jeanette Walsh

Condolence: I have many fond memories of being at the Sheppard house as a teenager and of always being welcomed. I always felt that Mrs Sheppard had a certain elegance to her which I assumed was because she was from "Britain". I don't think that I knew she was Irish. I learned that and alot more about her by reading the very nice obituary. She was a very impressive lady. Please accept our condolances.

Condolence From: Dianne Doyle Trenchard
Condolence: On behalf of the Doyle family I send heartfelt condolences on the passing of a very special lady - your mother Rose. Our mother ( Patricia Doyle ) was a longtime friend. She thought the world of Rose. I know you are saddened by her passing but she told me she was ready to go. I think she was ready the minute after your father passed. That love combined with her tremendous faith leaves no doubt that she is where she wanted to be and should be. Treasure your memories . Dianne, Sean and Randy.

Condolence From: Gert & Murray Strickland
Condolence: To Rose's beautiful family. Your mom was a dear and gentle soul whom we loved very much. I had the luck of having her deliver me into this world and my mom chose the best godmother ever for me - your mom. She has given us so many fond memories and endlessly made us laugh. The many interesting stories she told will be forever with us. She had such vast and adventurous experiences that made her life challenging, rewarding and so much to be proud off. Your dad ( Doug ) was obviously the love of her life and though her passing is sad we are confident she is quite happy to finally be reunited with him. They raised an awesome family and rightfully bragged about all of you for one reason or another. We have been so very privileged to have been a part of their lives. Will miss your mom dreadfully, will cherish all the memories and hold her dearly in my heart forever. I love your mom Rose - heaven has received a special angel. Both your parents will be watching over all of you and remain forever proud of the family that you are.
