Elizabeth Jane (Betty) von Borziskowski (nee Mitchell)
August 14, 1938 – January 28, 2018
It is with broken hearts that the family of Elizabeth Jane von Borziskowski, lovingly called Betty by her friends and family, announces her passing. Betty passed peacefully at the Miller centre in St. John’s on January 28 after a courageous battle with brain cancer.
Betty was born in Wandsworth, Newfoundland and spent most of her adult life in Gander where she raised her family and worked in healthcare at Lakeside Homes. She spent her retirement years giving back to the community, most notably with volunteer work and serving as president of the board for many years at the Gander Goodwill Centre.
Betty was known for her love of animals, children and music, especially country music. She loved baking bread, puttering around in her garden and was a kind and caring person who lived her life to the fullest. Recently, Betty struggled with several major illnesses and was helping her dear son with his own fight with cancer. She fought these battles head-on until her body was just too weak to carry on.
Predeceased by her husband, Bruno von Borziskowski, her parents Pearl and Raymond Mitchell, her brothers Bill and Frank Mitchell and sister Mae MacDougall, Betty leaves to mourn with loving, fun and very happy memories and deep sadness her son Curtis von Borziskowski; daughters Renate (Barry) Efford; Erika (Scott) Osmond; granddaughters Lesleigh (Mark) von Borziskowski Dyke and Ellie Osmond; grandson Dylan Dyke; sister Margaret Biggar; brother Clifford (Esther) Mitchell; sister-in-law Ruby Mitchell; nieces and nephews and a very large circle of family and friends.
A service for her family will take place at 11 am on February 1 at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamiltion Ave., in St. John’s.
