Condolence From: Wayne Hollohan (Victoria BC) 250 383 8043
Condolence: The memories, memories, memories, how could they not bring a smile to ones face. As early as yesterday before hearing the news I made a statement to neighbour and friend. We happen to be discussing the influences of our childhood. “When I was younger I would go over to the Duggan’s to gaze upon what a true family should be”, I told her. The laughter and actions of love between all the Duggan’s, especially around Christmas was inspiring. Memories I will always hold dear.

Dave’s & Sandra’s "mom", (not excluding just happen to be closer in age) played a big role in always make any and everybody who walk through door feel at home. Since moving away from Newfoundland to Victoria BC, you may always feel extremely welcomed at other people’s houses, but rarely to you feel at home. The simple definition to mainlanders would be that you could feel at ease to get up and go to the refrigeration for something as you would at home and if Miss D happens to walk in, she would offer you anything else she could think of. What was equally special, if a few of us were having a beer in the basement and Miss or Mister D walk in, you would feel no need to change the conversation. You were equally interested in their take on the subject as anyone else in the room. The jokes and wit at times was priceless. We are now our parents and the memories of our parents more regular loss of friends and family have become our own. My thoughts are with you all. Love from the Hollohan family (100 Memorial Dr.)

A Voice From the Grave
For the last four year, my daughter Armine has been attending Carlton University in Ottawa and each year I would go for a visit and think about getting in touch with Dave and Jackie. The first year it was a general search in the phone directory, but no luck. The second year, I did another search and even phone Gander and through Dave’s mother was able to get their phone number (In 1987, Dave and Jackie flew to Scotland for Dave to be the best man at my wedding, which I will always appreciate) I phoned the number, but there was no answer, so I left a message. For reasons I couldn’t understand no one got back to me. The third year visit I was determined, come hick or high water to track them down regardless of the outcome. So the search began, I Googled and Googled directories and names to no avail. I phoned Gander, first at his parent’s house then I tried neighbours, but it seemed Gander was unavailable to speak to. In a last ditch effort I typed in David Duggan Gander Newfoundland in Google and pressed enter. I don’t think I could have found the correct adjective to describe what came over me when my mother funeral obituary appeared. In opening I found a thoughtful condolence from Dave and Jackie. As I read it. I came across Wayne - got your message but no number on call display to return the call. After hearing a voice from the dead, there was no stopping me now. I switched my focus on Jackie and social media and in short order we were talking, which resulted in a beautiful lunch the next day, with Dave and Jackie and Armine and me. I have to say I was totally shock as to how much neither of them has changed over the years. Looking forward to seeing them both, in a month as am I return to visit Armine. Should any other lost soul like to share a memory of days gone by, I’m at VictoriaBC@shaw.ca

Condolence: To the Duggan family - I want to echo what my sisters have posted previously. In my mind Laura was an original - a true one of a kind. There was not a gentler or kinder person that I have ever met. She drove a car in the early 1970's when many women did not do so. A role model. A sense of humor that would bring the house down - but never with any ego or disparaging of others in so doing. She always thought of others before herself. I will always think of her as an accepting and tolerant person who was one of my mothers greatest friends for over 50 years and for that I am truly grateful. She truly enriched all of our lives.
May she rest in peace. None more deserevedly so.

Condolence: I was shocked and so sad to hear of Laura’s passing. Only last week Sharon and I were reminiscing and talking about her. She was our only neighbour left from our childhood. Duggans were always our back door neighbours and were loved by all of us. Always so gentle and kind. We have nothing but good memories of them .Don’t think Laura (or John ) ever raised her voice to any of us kids. Many days I jumped their fence to get home ! They are both now behind Clayton and Olive again! My sincere sympathy to the whole family.
