Condolence From: Wayne Hollohan (100 Memorial Dr.)
Condolence: A special memory of Jim Cashin has sat on the window of my office since 1989. Mary and Jim were and will, always be thought of as family. For they have been a part of our family's memories as far back as my memories will go. Our parents grew up in the time when financially they were all pretty much the same boat. It was a rare occasion you could afford to hire somebody to do work for you. So in whatever possible way they helped each other. The skill-set of Jim Cashin, which was only equaled by his good nature and good heart, had him help out others far more than anyone else I knew growing up. I may have been 8 or 9 years of age, but I remember as if it was yesterday. Jim under the kitchen sink with me, showing me with an old pump white gas brass torch, how to solder copper pipes, as he installed a new set of facets in our kitchen. A skill I still use today and it is, one of those same old pump white gas brass torches that sits on my office window sill. As I said when Mary passed, with the exception of, mom, my sister, and Max and Bet Edwards, Mary and Jim's phone number is the only other one I recall to this very day. When I got the news the other day, the saddest words I heard spoken in my lifetime came to mind. I flew home from Victoria BC and was taking my mother on one of our last trips to her hometown of Sweet Bay. We had stopped off at Greenings Restaurant as it was tradition. I had suggested we take a quick run to Summerville my father's hometown. Mom looked up at me and said; "they’re all dead" what do you mean? "Everybody I have known there is dead". With the exception of Roy Richards as it relates to our parents, the same is to be said for me now about Gander. So Jim's passing is sad to many, in so many ways. Estella, Ronnie, Theresa and families. Each member of the Hollohan family could share many pages of wonderful memories about your parents and I'll light and use Jim's torch, one last time, as I too have to change out a set of facets. Ronny, I know your father loss a friend when you moved to Goose, but you maintain his love of the woods and life when you left him the Sno Jet snowmobile. Your father leading the way down to your cabin and me with my daughter on back was and will likely be my last winter experience back home and my last ride on snowmobile. Yes it is a sad time, but one your family helped filled with great memories. Wayne, Karen & Armine Hollohan VictoriaBC@shaw.ca P.S. My first ride in a boat was in Jim’s, many many years ago in Sweet Bay. Both our families had enjoyed spending a summer holiday there. Back then any boat that went faster than 10 mph was called a speedboat. How many games of hundred twenty have we watched played on our parents kitchen tables.

Condolence: To Estelle, Ron, Theresa & Families. Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of your Dad. He was a very special man to me, like a father, he had the most beautiful smile and such a gentle soul. When Jim came to stay at Lakeside I told him I was the baby of the family.. He would always let me know when one of my sisters were coming for a visit, or I would stop in his room to say hi to my brudder.. I enjoyed the many stories he told me about his life with Mary and how proud he was of his 3 children You will dearly be missed at Lakeside.. I loss a piece of my heart when you left but you will always be with me.. Goodnight Jim, rest easy you will forever be loved and missed..
