Condolence From: Anne Manning-Moffitt
Condolence: My deepest condolences to Clay's large, extended and beautiful family. Your brother / father / uncle was a wonderful man. He was kind , happy , humble and hardworking. I'd love love to see him come through my office door at the school board. We'd have a chat; he'd make me laugh and then it was back to work. Everybody loved Clay so much. His passing has brought sorrow to a lot of lives whom he had touched. Clay will be missed by everyone. Rest in eternal peace, my friend.

Condolence From: Dennis Briffett
Condolence: A tribute to Clay: I met Clay when I went to Grade 10 at Gander Collegiate. Over the next 10 years or so, we spent a lot of time together involved in sports, mostly ball hockey. To say Clay was a good athlete would be an understatement. We played together, along with Roger and Barney, and eventually won a provincial championship and represented Newfoundland at the Canadian Nationals. Clay, of course, scored a huge goal to get us back into the game and we ended up winning in overtime. I'm sure many who knew Clay could tell a similar story, no matter what the sport. Someone asked me about him after he died and my response was "One of the funniest guys and probably the best athlete I ever knew" To this day I say if given one NFL game, he would have got a touchdown, one Major League at-bat, he would have got a hit and one World Cup soccer game, a goal. The best part is that while everyone was going crazy, Clay would have said "Never mind the cheering and clapping b'ys, get the game going again so I can get another one." Many sports have had an individual known as "the greatest"; hockey had Wayne Gretzky, boxing had Muhammed Ali. Well, in this neck of the woods Clay, that title belongs to you. My life is better having had you as a friend. You may be gone but you'll never be forgotten. Rest in peace Clay.

Condolence: Our deepest condolences to the John families. Over the years played a lot of ball hockey with Clay, Roger and Barney. A fierce competitor, especially when playing against one of his own brothers, it always a clean hard played game. While working at the school board Clay would often drop by my office for a chat. A true gentle man with a big heart, he will always be remembered as a friend and colleague. Rest in peace my buddy.

Condolence From: Terry & Velma
Condolence: Velma and myself were deeply saddened by Clay's passing. There are so many memories Clay gave us over the years that will last forever by so many of his friends and relatives. Everybody, who knew Clay was well aware of his love for sports, in particular, hockey, softball and broom ball. If there was one person you could depend on to win a game for the team it was Clay. In growing up with Clay, we couldn't wait to get a game on the go either on the road, field or the frog pond. We played basically until dark. There was never a dull moment with Clay around. Clay will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Condolence From: Eugene & Heather Broderick & family
Condolence: Barney, Roger and families, So sorry to hear about Clay. He was such a fun loving person who was so easy going and always a smile on his face. Whenever we ran into each other its like time had stood still. He was an usher at our wedding 27 years ago and made a lasting impression on some of our family members. My grandfather (85 yrs) would speak of him because the night before our wedding, he sat down with him and they talked for 2 hours. That meant a lot to my grandfather, respect was a really big deal to him. I was so moved by how Clay spoke with him because my grandfather meant everything to me. He also left his legacy in many days of softball and during our high school years. Hold on to your memories and celebrate his life. Those things will get you through the difficult days ahead. hugs and prayers to you all.
