It is with heavy hearts that we say our final goodbye to our loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Elsie Carter who recently celebrated her 91st birthday with the family. She passed peacefully away on July 9th, 2018.
Elsie was born in Whale’s Gulch, Notre Dame Bay, on May 25, 1927, and settled in Gander with her husband, Raymond in the early days of the town and raised their family.
Leaving to mourn are sons: Donald (Marilyn), Robert (Jeanette); daughter Debbie (Wayne) Vardy as well as five grandsons Craig (Janet), Dean, Brad (Suzanne), Brent (Jenn) and Shawn (Angela Nimmo); great grandchildren: Ella, Claire, Sebastian and Charleigh; her remaining brother, Melvin (Joan) Rideout, the Buffett family, Agnes (John) Greer, Donna (Jim) Johnston and David; the Vardy family, Chris (Esther), Stephen (Jill), Cara, Madison and Finn and lifelong friend Fred Dawson and his family; a large circle of friends, special nieces and nephews, extended relatives and puppy dog, Carter.
Elsie became a proud Ganderite and always wanted Gander as her home. She worked for Kolsou Ltd. as a sales person, a buyer and a floor supervisor. She was active in the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary for many decades. She loved an active social life and truly enjoyed playing cards. She became a member of the 50+ Club and looked forward to their various events. As a 30- year cancer survivor, she supported efforts of the Canadian Cancer Society.
Elsie’s former home at 62 Hawker Crescent was adorned with many flower beds. Flowers are graciously accepted in her memory, or donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
She will be forever in our hearts and is now in the arms of the angels.
