Condolence: I'm so shocked to hear of Doug's passing. I worked with your Dad many years ago in GFW. We had many laughs together for sure. He was so wonderful to me on a personal level as well. He delivered my baby girl who is now 18 yrs. I lived in St. John's at the time so Doug would make time to see me whenever I came home as I wanted to have our baby in GFW where I had worked.I am from Botwood so it was closer to my family as well. Doug went out of his way to accommodate me and I will love him forever for all he did for me at that time. He kept in touch as well when I moved to Halifax. A gifted man for sure and an all around lovely man. Hold each other close at this very sad time and may your memories of your Dad keep you all close. Take care.

Condolence: It is with great sadness that I express my condolences to Dr. Torraville's family and also our work family. I worked with him a few years ago, he delivered my daughter (with such compassion given our past experience) and just recently I began working with him again. I will miss his smile, his quirky antics and his love for the job he was born to do. Our hospital just wont be the same without him. Blessings to you all. He is remembered with fondness.

Condolence: There is a saying: "You don't realize what you have until it's gone". I knew you were a great mentor & teacher, a valued colleague & the center of our work family but I truly did not appreciate your profound impact until you were no longer here & I began to think back on the past 13 years. So many memories; countless happy memories of deliveries, unit shenanigans & stories shared over lunch. Some not so happy ones of deliveries that did not go as we would have hoped, personal struggles shared as well as struggles to keep all of us at "home" on OBS at JPM. It is hard to believe that you will not be walking onto the unit double fisted with a large Tim's (the Doug Torraville Special) & a big cup of ice water - believe it or not I will miss dumping your untouched cup of ice water down the sink! I am saddened by the fact that no other OBS nurse or resident will have the privilege of learning how to deliver a baby from you. They will never see a pair of forceps applied by your skilled hands. No other patient will experience your knowledgeable care. You were always our constant, no matter what was happening on our unit, whether we were OBS or not you were always present, always genuinely interested in what was going on(or maybe just nosey, i'm not sure which). You will be missed my friend, not only by your OBS girls but by every colleague & patient that was fortunate enough to cross paths with you. We will miss your knowledge & skill, your support & generosity, your coffee & ice water cups, your tray left in the nursery. I hope you knew how much we appreciated you & how very special you were to were to us. Please know that Dr.Torraville will always have a special place in our hearts & your are in our thoughts.

Condolence: Doug was a true friend who was easy to talk to and cared about others. I remember the first time we met as neighbours and I invited him to the cabin at Sandy Brook. I never expected him to show up, but he was there dressed in the best outdoor gear I’d ever seen. What a great night we had! A huge fire, a couple of brews, and a tot of rum. And who could forget those slow cooked steak? I always looked forward to Doug’s steaks. We had a lot of great skidoo trips after that. It been 15 years since I’ve been back to Newfoundland and we lost contact, but you were the best friend I ever had. Thank you being so kind, caring, approachable, and funny. Here’s to all the great times.
