Obituary for Gerald J. Dooley

DOOLEY
Gerald James
July 26, 1927 – December 4, 2018

Our beloved husband and father passed peacefully away at Lakeside Homes, Gander on Tuesday December 4, 2018 at the age of 91 years. Our father was a quiet and gentle man with a big heart. He came to gander from Sweet Bay, Bonavista Bay, NL., as a young man to find work. Once he found a job he returned to Sweet Bay and married Mary Elizabeth Maloney whom he shared his life with. He worked for MOT for 35 years and retired in 1987. He was well respected by those he worked with.

Gerald was predeceased by his parents Daniel & Catherine Dooley; son Phillip (February 2018); brothers: James, Daniel; sister Mary. His only surviving sibling Nellie Kelly. He will be sadly missed by his devoted wife Mary whom he shared 68 wonderful years; sons: Barry, Donnie, Danny and Ron and only daughter Ruby (Eric). He loved his grandchildren Nicole, Nancy (Glen), Melissa (Dustin) and Bradley. He loved his great grandchildren: Ava and Hunter. He will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews who loved him.

One of his favorite things to do was to go trout fishing at Deadman’s Pond. He also enjoyed being in the woods to cut his own firewood. He enjoyed going to his cabin in Sweet Bay, the community where he was born. Dad was a happy person and he always put his family first before himself. He was content with the simple things in life.

In keeping with his wishes cremation has taken place. There will be a family service held at Stacey’s Funeral Home, 60 Roe avenue, Gander on Thursday December 6, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. officiated by Father William Hearn with interment to follow at All Saints cemetery. As expressions of sympathy in lieu of flowers donation may be made in his memory to the H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation.

Our family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Lakeside Homes who took very good care of our husband and father while in residence. He received the best care and lots of love.

We have many fond memories of our Dad and he will be forever in our hearts. Rest in Peace Dad – you will never be forgotten. Our memories of you will live on through us and your grandchildren and great grandchildren.
