Obituary for Reverend Canon Arnold Torraville

TORRAVILLE
Rev. Canon Arnold
April 24, 1927 – February 20, 2019

On February 20, 2019, the Rev. Canon Arnold Torraville passed away at the age of 91. Arnold was born in Fogo, Fogo Island on April 24, 1927. Throughout his life in the ministry, Arnold served in Cartwright, Greenspond, Port Blandford, Windsor, Heart’s Content, Catalina, Eastport, and Corner Brook as hospital chaplain. He was predeceased by his wife Nita Marie (Mesher) Torraville; his son, Dr. Douglas Alfred Torraville and his parents Netta and Alfred Torraville. Left with fond and loving memories are his sister, Verna Anstey; son, Rt. Rev. David Torraville (Karen); grandchildren: Paul (Elisha), Catherine (Joe), Maggie, Paddy (Sam) and Aidan; great-grandchildren: Elijah and Evangeline; as well as cousins, nephews and nieces, and a large circle of friends and colleagues. After a long and full life, Arnold had a sense of humour about the eventuality of his own death. Each morning as he read the newspaper he would say; “Name’s not in the paper, guess I’m still alive.” Well, Arnold, our beloved friend, colleague, brother, father, Pop; today your name is written in the paper, but your love is forever written on our hearts. Family will be receiving friends at Stacey’s Funeral Home, 60 Roe Avenue, Gander on Friday February 22, 2019 between the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday February 23, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. – noon. The funeral service will take place on Saturday February 23, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. from the St. Martins Anglican Cathedral officiated by Reverend Brian Candow with interment to take place at a later date. As expressions of sympathy in lieu of flowers charitable donations may be made to the Mazol Shriners or Primates World Relief.
