Obituary for Charles (Roy) Richards

Passed away peacefully at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Centre, Botwood, Saturday 18 May 2019, Charles Dawson Roy Richards, 94 of Gander. Predeceased by mother Sara Grace (nee Soper), father Roland, wife Alice (nee Hanlon), daughter Sharon, sons Roy and Gary. Left to mourn with loving memories, daughter Brenda, son Tony (Joanne) of Gander, granddaughter and Pops girl, Cordelia of Wabush, step granddaughters Hayley and Jill and step grandson Gregory, special family friend, Hazel Osmond, all of Gander. Resting at Stacey’s Funeral Home, Gander on Wednesday, May 22nd from 2:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M. Flowers gratefully accepted or in lieu of flowers, donations in Roy's memory may be made to the Gander and Area SPCA, 36 McCurdy Dr. Gander, NL. A1V 1A2 Dad was a World War II veteran, Royal Artillery, RA # 1158269. Following discharge he embarked on a career in the aviation industry working as an aircraft mechanic for Allied Aviation and Eastern Provincial Airways. In 1968 Dad accepted a position teaching Aircraft Maintenance Engineering at Gander District Vocational School, a position he held until his retirement in 1988. Along the way Dad attained his Federal Aviation Administration Engineering License and was past president of Nfld. Government Employees Association in 1973. An avid fisherman and camping enthusiast, he spent many days fishing on the Gander River. A special thank you to the doctors and staff at the Twomey Centre, Exploits Valley Veterans Pavilion Wing, for the exceptional care they provided while Dad was a resident. As well, a very special thank you to Dr.Eric Button for your care as Dads physician and friend over the years. A life well lived, a rest well earned.
