August 28, 1931 – June 15, 2019
In the early hours of June 15th 2019, Donal Foley was called home to heaven while in the presence of his family at 87 years old.
Donal’s memory will forever be kept alive by his wife of almost 57 years, Bridget. Together, they raised 8 children – Janis (Sean), Ellen, Christina (Oscar), Susan (John), Phonse, Angela (Andre), Lillian (Ian), and Brian (Michelle). They were married in Tilting, Fogo Island, where they grew up. After living there for many years they moved to Glenwood, where their family home was always full of nothing but love, laughter and happy memories.
Donal will be missed by Bridget and his children, as well as his grandchildren: Rebecca, Olivia, Lorelei, Emilee, Gavin, Madeline, and Gabriel, to whom he was the best Goff & Poppy Foley that anybody could ever want. He will also be missed dearly by his beloved sister Helen McGettigan (nee Foley), and her children Daniel, Donal, Peggy, and Patricia-Anne, and his late beloved sister Mary Loretta’s children; Helen, Kathleen, Austin, Cyril, Anthony, and John. He was pre-deceased by his parents Lambert and Margaret, as well as his mother-in-law Christina, and father-in-law Dominic.
Donal had an infectious smile and personality, and he lit up every room he entered. There was nothing he loved more than being surrounded by his family, whom he always reminded how good it was to have them around. He is loved beyond measure and we will always be so grateful for the years we had with him.
Visitation will take place Sunday, June 16th from 2-4pm & 7-9pm, and Monday June 17th 2-4pm & 7-9pm at St. Anne’s Church, Glenwood, with funeral mass to take place Tuesday, June 18th at 11am, also in St. Anne’s Church. Burial will take place in Tilting’s St. Patrick’s Cemetary the following day. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Donal’s name to a charity of one’s choice. Or, keep his memory alive through sharing stories of him and making someone smile.
