Obituary for Robert Eastman

Robert Eastman
Robert “Jim” James Eastman, 69, of Gander, NL, passed peacefully away surrounded by his family on Monday, August 5th, 2019 at the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax, NS.
Jim was born in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL, to Clayton and Olive Eastman (deceased). Following graduation from Memorial University in 1974, he spent the majority of his career teaching at William Mercer Academy in Dover, NL. That same year he met the love of his life, Mary (Wiseman) Eastman, and was married shortly thereafter. Jim was an Anglican lay-reader for 39 plus years. He was heavily involved in his community and a member of many groups and committees. He was a helping hand to many, graciously providing guidance, support and advice. As an avid outdoorsman, he loved to build, hunt, and fish. But his greatest joy was spending time with his wife, three children and two grandchildren.
Jim is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, Darryl and Jody; daughter, Angel; daughters-in-law, Jolene and Maggie; and grandchildren, Summer and Raven. Also left to mourn are his brothers Cyril, Edward (Shirley), Gordon (Elizabeth). Clayton (Phronie), Paul (Venetta), and sisters Joan Cadigan, and Katherine Mishos (Angelo). Jim is predeceased by his sister Margaret, and brothers-in-law, Thomas Cadigan and Bob Morrisey. Beloved by many, he also leaves behind nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to all.
Jim’s celebration of life service will be on Monday, August 12, 2019 at 2:00pm, at St. Martin’s Anglican Cathedral, Gander, NL. Reverend Jim Beaton will be officiating. Internment of his remains will follow at a later date. Family visitation will be on Saturday, August 10 from 2-4pm, at Stacey’s Funeral Home, Gander, NL. All are invited to attend visitation on Saturday, August 10th from 7-9 pm and Sunday, August 11 from 2-4pm. A family visitation and private service will be held on August 11, from 7-9pm.
