Barbara was born in Grand Falls, NL on February 25, 1931 to Frederick and Violet Hiscock. After her father passed away when she was young, and as the eldest of 7 children, she often filled the role as caregiver to her siblings. Barbara worked as a telephone operator for the phone company for a time. During a weekend visit to Gander, a few hours away by train, she met her husband to be, Roland Whittle of Baine Hr., Placentia Bay. They were eventually married in Gander and lived there the remainder of their lives, spending almost 60 years together during which time they raised their two children John and Nancy. Over the years in Gander, Barbara taught sewing to a great many students at the Vocational School, as it was then known, and worked for Sears Canada. She dearly loved sewing and quilting and sharing, with others, her abundance of knowledge. The many pieces she gifted to her children, family and friends are cherished and proudly displayed. Barbara was an active member of the Women's Institute, YQX Quilter's Guild, Wednesday's Sewing Group, her church and a proud member of the Red Hat Society.
Barbara will be sadly missed by her loving family and numerous frien
