Obituary for Sarah Juanita Tibbo
SARAH JUANITA TIBBO (KENDALL)
July 22, 1934 – September 6, 2019
It is with much sadness that the family of (Sarah) Juanita Tibbo (nee Kendall) announce her passing in the early morning of September 6, 2019 at the age of 85, at Lakeside Homes, Gander, NL. Juanita was born July 22, 1934 in Ramea, NL where she met and married William (Bill) Tibbo, her devoted husband of 65 years. She was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Mary Kendall, her sister Eleanor, her brother Victor, and his wife (sister-in-law) Shirley, her brother Donald and his wife (sister-in-law) Margaret, her brother-in-law Hugh Alley, and her son-in-law, Douglas Cole. Besides her sister Catherine (Alley) of St. David’s, NL, Juanita leaves to mourn her loving husband, Bill and their four children who will miss her dearly: Donald (Betty) of Gander, NL, Elaine Tibbo Cole of Calgary, AB, Perry (Sandra) of Cambridge, ON, and Amanda of Calgary, AB. Also mourning for her are her six grandchildren whom she loved very much: Mark Tibbo (Kristi), Karla Tibbo Edwards (Tucker), Matthew Cole (Angelyn), Chelsea Cole, Jeremy Tibbo (Robin), Maria Tibbo. Juanita also had five great-grandchildren: Chloe, Ava, Theodore, Rachel, and Katelyn.
Juanita loved music throughout her life and for many years was a church organist in Ramea, St. David’s, Curling, Corner Brook and, when needed at Lakeside Homes in Gander. After moving to Gander in 1996, she also became a member of a local square dancing group for a few years. She was very artistic and creative. She had an avid love for knitting and crocheting but then she found her true passion in making numerous quilts and placemats as well as in teaching quilting classes two evenings a week from her home. Her abilities for her craft also won her some awards at local craft shows. As a member of the Women’s Institute in Gander she was involved in the creating and teaching of different crafts for the purpose of fundraising for charities. Besides her arts and crafts, Juanita had a zest for life and was at her happiest when surrounded by family and friends.
Much appreciation goes to the staff at Lakeside Homes for their excellent care and dedication, which were above and beyond the call of duty. Visitation will take place at Stacey’s Funeral Home, 60 Roe Ave. on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 from the hours of 2-4pm and 7-9pm. The funeral service will be held Thursday, September 12, 2019 at St. Martin’s Cathedral, 2 Lindbergh Road, at 2pm. with the Rev. James Beaton officiating. Following the interment at All Saints’ Cemetery there will be a reception at the Fellowship Hall located at the back of the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Alzheimer Society or to Lakesides Homes, Gander.
