August 02, 1934 - March 02, 2020

It is with great sadness that we, the family of Helen Torraville, announce the death of our loving Mother, Mother-in-law and Grandmother. However, it is with grateful hearts that we celebrate her joyful and rewarding life of almost 86 years.

Helen was born to Charles and Olive Nurse of Champney’s East, NL along with her predeceased sibling’s, Marjorie, Joseph, Delbert and William. She moved to Gander Bay as a teacher where she met and married the love of her life, Rosswell Torraville. Together they raised their four children until Ross’s death in 1995.

Helen chose to continue enjoying life to the best of her ability with her family and friends and always had a smile for everyone.

Left to mourn are son Geoffrey (Norma), Daughter Donna (Richard), Son John (Anne), Son Jason (Rhonda) and her grandchildren whom she loved so dearly, Jennifer(Jonathan), Jacob, Sam, Lisa(Dean) and Randy(Andrea) along with her great-children Ben, Zoe, Mason, Kaden and Riley as well as a very large group of caring extended family and faithful lifetime friends.

Resting peacefully at Stacey’s Funeral Home, 60 Roe Avenue, Gander, NL, on Friday March 6, 2020 between the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. and at St. Andrews Anglican Church, Glenwood on Saturday March 7, 2020 from 10:00 a.m - 12:00 noon from where the funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Reverend Moses Tucker with interment to follow at St. Andrews Anglican Church Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy flowers are graciously accepted or donations in Helen's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Geoff, Donna, John, Jason and families, my sincere condolences on your mother's passing. She was a lovely soft spoken lady, who always made us feel welcome. I was a teenager when Aunt Helen (then Miss Nurse) came to teach in Victoria Cove, and I had finished school and moved away before she and Uncle Ross married. Over the years I visited them in Appleton, saw them at their little cabin in Victoria Cove, and after Uncle Ross died I visited her at the cabin when she would visit there with Aunt Bobby - Aunt Barbara Hopkins. Later I visited her at The Legion Manor, and finally at Lakeside. The last time I saw her at Lakeside Pauline and I visited together, and although she couldn't talk to us she could understand us. We went through all her pictures that were on the wall, and she let us know when we named people properly. Rest in peace Aunt Helen. Barbara (Saunders) and Gerry Anctil

Geoff, Donna, John and Jason and Family. Our thoughts are with you during this difficult time. Aunt Helen will always be remembered for her kindness and her hospitality when relatives appeared on her doorstep with little if any notice. She and Mom were especially close. Mom and Dad spent some of their happiest times with your parents in the garden at Victoria Cove.
Gary and Esther Hopkins.

Geoff, Donna, John & Jason and families:
We are so sorry to learn of the passing of Aunt Helen, a wonderful, caring lady who always greeted us with her warm, affectionate smile. I remember when she first came to Victoria Cove as a young, energetic and enthusiastic teacher and how fortunate Uncle Ross was to find her as his spouse and partner for life. We have many fond memories of visiting them over the years and seeing them at their cabin in Victoria Cove where the kettle was always on. Take comfort in all your precious memories and we're sure there is a seat reserved for them as they are reunited in heaven. God bless you all!
