Obituary for David Moakler

David was born December 13, 1962 in Gander and passed away unexpectedly on February 26, 2020 at the age of 57 in Gander, where he lived and worked as an International Flight Service Specialist, with NavCanada.

In September of 1963 David and his family moved from Gander to Goose Bay. Along with school etc., it was here that he gained an interest in golf during the construction and early years of the Amaruk Golf Course, which was practically in his back yard.

In 1978 his family relocated from Goose Bay to St. John’s and he graduated High School from Gonzaga High (1979). He worked at Sobey’s until he applied for a course in computer studies at the Cabot Institute and graduated in the class of 1987. After graduating he worked with Harvey and Company, and an animal hospital utilizing his newly learned skills.

In November of 1995 David joined NavCanada working there until his passing.

Since he returned to Gander his interest in his love of golf grew both playing the game and helping around the local course in any way he could. His volunteer spirit was not just limited to all the time he gave to golf behind the scenes becoming very versed with the rules, and helping with tournaments across the Province. He also had a keen interest in finding ways to encourage the young to get interested in golf as a sport and a means of exercise and fitness. His dedicated volunteerism led to his induction into the Newfoundland and Labrador Golf Hall of Fame in 2015.

David was there to help within the community with different people whenever there was a need. He also valued ME time away from work and other activities.

David was preceded by his father Alfred (1974), and his brother Paul (2012).

He is survived by his mother Anne Bedford NS, brothers Ron (Linda Comeau) Beaver Bank NS, Ken (Lan Le) Ottawa ON, Philip (Joanne Lethbridge) Clarenville NL, sister in law Linda Rowe-Moakler Kitchener, and niece Denise Moakler Sydney NSW AU, and many aunts, uncles and cousins among the Kearsey and Moakler families.
Family will be accepting friends at Stacey's Funeral Home on Thursday, October 29th from 12:00 P.M. - 3:00 P.M. A small private family service and interment will follow.
