Obituary for Genevieve Gillingham

Genevieve Mary Gillingham.
July30,1940-March 20,2020

It is with heavy hearts that the family of our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Genevieve Gillingham , announce her passing on March 20,2020 at the Lakeside Homes in Gander. She went peacefully to heaven with her family by her side.

Gen was born July 30,1940 in her beloved family home in Gambo.
Gen’s memories and sense of comfort in later years always went back to her happy childhood with her Mom,Dad, sisters and brothers in Gambo. She often spoke about waiting for Pop to arrive by train from St. John’s to see what gifts he was bringing them, caring for her horse Rex and going to church Christmas Eve by sleigh.

Her life continued on a happy path when she met the handsome ex RCAF pilot, Hunter Gillingham from St. John’s. He proved to be the love of her life. They married and had 3 children, eventually moving the family from St. John’s to Gander to accommodate Hunter’s job with GM. Gen’s life in Gander was a good one. Her and Hunter enjoyed fishing, Ben and Dot Ackerman’s cabin on the Northwest Gander River, get togethers at the Rod and Gun Club, and spending time with family and friends. Hunter would often take Gen flying, whether it was an afternoon trip or a weekend away in St. Pierre.
Gen worked many jobs, most notably as a medical office administrator with Dr. Lee Jewer, and a licensed Optition with Dr. Wyatt.

Genevieve is predeceased by husband Hunter, parents John and Mary Kelly, brother Harry Kelly, brother Bert Kelly, sister Angela Green, and special friend Hazel Newhook.

Left with loving memories are son Robert, daughter Barbara (Paul Brazil), son Peter (Kim). Her cherished grandchildren, Matthew,Alex,James and Hannah.
Sister Elizabeth Kelly, sister Sadie (Jon) Newhook, brother Jack (Bunty) Kelly, and sister Sheila Lundrigan. As well as a large circle of family and friends.

A special thank you to the kind people of the Nightingale Manor who made Mom’s life there comfortable and enjoyable.
After a brief stay at the Lakeside Homes, we would like to thank the nursing staff there for your compassion and care in her final days.

Amid this time of restrictions of social gatherings Gen’s Funeral Mass,Burial and celebration of her life will be planned in the coming months.

Arrangement entrusted to Stacey's Funeral Home, Gander.
