Obituary for Valentine "Val" Dunn

Passed peacefully away at home, on April 2, 2020, at the age of 85, Val Dunn, husband and father of four.

Val was born in Riverhead, Harbour Grace, NL, on July 26, 1934 the eldest son of Val and Rita (Coombs) Dunn. Val worked as a telegrapher with the Canadian Railway for 7 years before becoming a passenger agent with Air Canada in 1959. Val loved both jobs and especially loved working with the public at Air Canada.

Val was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus for over 60 years - he was a member of the 4th Degree. Val loved giving back to the community through his involvement with the Red Cross (over 100 blood donations), the Gander and Area Food Bank and Gander Goodwill Center. Val was named Citizen of the Year for Gander in 1987. Upon retirement, Val and Maxine spent 31 years wintering in Largo, Florida and they were involved in many activities in the park.

Val is predeceased by his parents; youngest sister, Kathleen; and son in law, Perry. Val is survived by his wife of 59 years Maxine; his 4 children, Colleen (Corey), Paul (Joanne), Kelly and Craig (Marlie); brother Ray, sisters Nell, Peg and Ann; grandchildren, Robyn, Casey, Jaime, Brandon, Iain, Jessica, Erin and Ashley and great-granddaughters, Anna, Rylee and Lauren.

The family would like to thank Dr. Marcus Byrne, Greg Banfield from Palliative Care, Keisha McDonald and Rebecca Bragg of Community Health and the Canadian Red Cross.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Red Cross or the Gander and Area Food Bank.
