Obituary for Gaetan Plourde

Gaétan Joseph Napoléon Albert Plourde November 16, 1942 - July 15, 2020 It is with heavy hearts that the family of Gaétan Plourde announce his passing at the James Paton Memorial Health Care Centre in Gander on Wednesday July 15, 2020 at the age of 77 years. He was predeceased by his parents Albert & Alphena Plourde.

Gaétan was born in Hibbard, Quebec and being the adventurous person, he made his way west to Winnipeg. Over the course of his life he went where the work would take him and learned many different roles, such as Logger, a Steamer for CP Rail, a Camp Cook, a Crusher Operator at several mines across Canada and finally moved with his family to become a Heavy Equipment Operator in Fort McMurray working for Great Canadian Oil Sands (GCOS), now Suncor Energy starting in the early 70’s. On his days off from shift work, with one lawnmower and a contract with Athabasca Realty Company (ARC) he started his very successful landscaping business “Frenchy’s Snowblowing Services & Property Maintenance“.

After retirement from Suncor Energy, Gaétan loved his part time job delivering pizza’s for Pizza Hut, when he met Madge in 2001.

Gaétan & Madge than moved to Larder Lake, Ontario where they lived for almost 10 years, after which they made their way to Benton, Newfoundland. Gaétan feel in love with the island and the people. Gaétan was generous to a fault, kind-hearted and loving. He will be remembered for his love of gardening and fishing, and was a big fan of baseball and hockey.

He was truly one of a kind & will be sorely missed.

He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories the love of his life Madge Piercey, daughter Heather Rachar (Craig), son Gaétan Jr. Plourde (Samantha), step children Gary Piercey (Louise Frost), Ross Piercey (Lynn), Glenda Blasius (Larry), Dave Piercey (Bobbi) and Sue Forbister (Art); grandchildren, Dustin, Leslie, Kyla, Daphne, Brydon, Tempestt, Devon, Lorna, Tom, David, Brett, Andrew, Natalie, James, Josh, Conrad, Tache and numerous great grandchildren.

Interment to take place at the United Church Cemetery in Benton on Saturday July 18, 2020 @ 2 PM, attendance will be restricted as per Covid-19 protocol.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Stacey’s Funeral Home in Gander, where a message of condolence may be left at www.staceysfuneralhome.ca
