Obituary for Margaret Diamond
Margaret Elizabeth Jane Morgan Diamond was born November 7, 1935 in Change Islands, NL to parents Amelia & George , the youngest of 6 children. Margaret married Carl Diamond also of Change Islands on December 31,1956. They lived at Ferry Lane, and raised their family there. They had been married for just over 30 years when Carl passed away.
Margaret was predeceased by her parents of whom she cared for in their late years, until 1985 when her father passed away. Her husband Carl 1987, 4 siblings Sylvia Woodford, Flora Ledrew, & brothers Leslie & Ralph Morgan. Her youngest son, Berkley in September of 2017.
Margaret is survived by her two children ; Sylvia (Eric) & Barry (Stephanie), daughter in law Cathy, 4 grandchildren ; Cassidy, Emma, Mark, & Cali, & her sister Bertha. Also Margaret leaves 4 sister in laws, & 2 brother in laws, and many nieces, & nephews.
Margaret was a gifted & talented individual. She loved knitting & quilting. She knitted for the Cod Jigger, & Nonia for many years, which she received recognition for years of service. Whether it was knitting blankets, & outfits for the grandchildren, Home League, or the Interpretation Centre the attention to detail was amazing.
Quilting, I think we all have one of more of her quilts. Of honourable mention would be a Corvette quilt she did for Barry, by using the pictures of all his car magazines, all free hand, the work she put into this was truly a masterpiece.
She made jams & preserves, and you would always get a homemade light fruit cake on your birthday, or cheesecakes for her brothers. She enjoyed planting her flowers especially her tulips each year, chicken raising, & spending time with her family cats.
She volunteered for many Home League events, faithfully attended the Salvation Army church, & collected many years for the Red Cross. I recall lots of Christmas’s that she would not leave Change Islands until the Home League & Red Cross Christmas parties were held.
She possessed a strong unwavering faith which held her through many major life events. I’m sure that times were not always easy for her, but gathering herself & her children to church always remained very important. Her family takes great comfort in knowing she is gone to her eternal home, with her Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ. Her granddaughter Cali when she heard the news of Nanny’s passing said well she’s probably happy now that she’s reunited with poppy & Uncle Berkley now, it’s happy for her but sad for us. We all hope to meet her there some day.

Cassidy remembers going to Build A Bear with her, and going to the Sea Lion Show @ West Edmonton Mall, and all the outfits she made for the bear on her last trip to Alberta in 2009.
Emma & Sylvia share her middle name as theirs.
Mark remembers that she choose his name, and her knitting a little sweater, & a blanket for his plushies. Her saying, I love you a lot to him, even on FaceTime the week she died.
Cali also has her maiden name, & remembers her saying give the girls a kiss for me.
We all know her love for ice cream, it was definitely one of her guilty pleasures, she would never refuse it, but would only have a small one because she had to “mind her sugars.” One of the last things she did eat was a soft serve, and she said my that’s some good.
The Diamond family would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation, & thankfulness to the doctors, nurses, & wonderful caregivers who lovingly cared for her at the North Haven Manor in Lewisporte the last few years. Especially during the Covid restrictions trying to organize Face-time visits, and keep her connected to us. Sylvia & Mark, & Aunt Bertha’s family especially provided lots of love & support, and dropped by for lots of visits.

Mom no matter where you went in your 84 years, whether in Gander with Sylvia & family, St. John’s with Berkley & family, or all over Alberta with Barry & his family, you enjoyed your visits, and seeing new things... but you always anxiously awaited to go back to beautiful Change Islands, in your own little home. We always joked that you were the keeper of the Island, & the Big Ben time piece for reminders of ferry schedules. You have now reached your favourite & final resting place. Go Rest high now Mom, you are finally at peace at home.
