Obituary for Eldred Gillingham

GILLINGHAM
Eldred
January 15, 1943 – August 15, 2020

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Eldred Gillingham announce his passing at the James Paton Memorial Health Care Centre on Saturday August 15, 2020 at the age of 77 years. He was predeceased by his loving wife of nearly 50 years Pauline; son Eldred Jr.; mom Florence Gillingham; dad Ananias Gillingham; mother-in-law Violet Gillingham; father-in-law Howard Gillingham; brother Clifford Gillingham; sister Charlotte Head; 2 infant siblings; brother-in-law Raymond Head; sisters-in-law: Dulcie Gillingham, Rosie Gillingham and nephew David Coates.

Eldred was a man who loved his family and did his best to provide them with a wonderful life filled with as much love and enjoyment as was possible. He was a man with great values and beliefs, and these he instilled in his family. Teaching his children to love and respect, give always unselfishly, and treat others how you would like to be treated. He loved to work with his hands and with wood, materials and tools; therefore pursuing his lifelong career as a carpenter, always so very meticulous in his work and it showed in his end results. He was a man who loved the outdoors – from always wanting to be in the woods cutting wood and logs, to rabbit catching, moose hunting, to cod fishing and also to planting his potato and vegetable gardens and watching them grow and harvest them. He loved to build things – Gander Bay River Boats, Fishing Punts, and of course homes of many shapes and sizes, and he was so very good at it! Eldred had a passion for people and music, as do many of his brothers and sisters. Many of them have been blessed with the gift to play an instrument- His musical instrument was his double spoons especially, which he loved to play to the traditional Newfoundland Music with his cassette player (especially the jigs). He was a very spiritual man and lived his daily life this way. He always prayed, said grace for his meals, attended his church and always read his bible. He truly walked with the Lord, and he always looked to the Lord for his strength and guidance. God has called him home to be with him, the angels, and all of his family; especially the love of his life, Pauline and Eldred Jr. In heaven he shall have no more pain and suffering will be no more.

He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his daughters: Trudy Nippard (Derrick), Cindy (Ed) Osmond; son Cory Gillingham (girlfriend Joanne Hart); grandson Terry (Marsha) Nippard; granddaughter Ashley Nippard (Danny Coles); step grandson Mark Osmond (Cassie Travers); great grandchildren: Chloe Coles, Jackson Nippard, Jacob Nippard, Deacon Coles, Thomas Nippard; brothers: Carl (Ada) Gillingham, Benjamin (Linda) Gillingham, Harvey Gillingham, Ewin (Mavis) Gillingham (nephew, however considered the same as a brother); sister Madeline (Herbert) Coates; sister-in-law Betty Gillingham; very special friends of dad & mom, Melvina & Gord Gillingham, Melvina & Morley Head, Judy & Eugene Edwards, Edna & Stewart Coles, and also a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
