CANDOW, Cherry, Nov. 8, 1934-Sept. 7, 2020. We deeply regret to announce the passing of the family matriarch, Cherry (Lush) Candow at the James Paton Memorial Health Care Centre on Labour Day, Sept. 7, surrounded by family. She was predeceased by husband James Candow, brother Sterling Lush and his wife Joan (Noftall) Lush, father John Lush, mother Myra (Keats)Lush. She is survived by sister June MacDonald (Paul) of Fredericton, NB; sons James Jr. (Grace Warner) of Dartmouth, NS, Roger (Violet) of Hay River, NWT, Brian (Laura) of Gander;daughters Paula Thomas (Alex) of Nanaimo, BC, Lori Wilkie (Blair) of Paradise, NL; grandchildren Ian Candow and Bethany West ; Michael Thomas and Megan Newton; Peter and Andrew Wilkie; John Candow; step-grandchildren Marissa Cummings and Adrienne Wu; great-grandchildren Leon Candow and Cole, Bennett, and Ayla Thomas; nephews Sean Lush and John MacDonald; nieces Sherry Lush and Joy MacDonald; and a vast circle of friends and relatives. Born in Middle Brook, Bonavista Bay, Cherry came to Gander at the tender age of sixteen, joining the ranks of her contemporaries who formed the first generation of Ganderites. She and Dad married in 1954,and in 1958 they moved into their home on Cotton Street, where she resided until late 2019. All who entered her door were welcomed as though they were family, and to know her was to love her. Cremation has taken place; a proper memorial service will be held when COVID-19 permits.Donations in memory of Cherry can be made to St. Martin’s Cathedral, Gander.

Our sincere condolences to all the family of dear, beautiful Cherry. May the memories of her sweet voice and ringing laughter, and of her kind, loving and helpful ways sustain you as you go forward. I have lost a well-loved cousin, who will stay in our memories for all the times she opened her home and her heart to us. And the world has lost a remarkable, wonderful person.

I remember Cherry as Aunt Cherry my Mom's cousin so sweet.
The last time I visited Aunt Cherry was with my Mom.
So it had been a long time but her impression on me is still as fresh as this morning.
May she rest in ☮️ my sincerest condolences to all the family.xo

Lori and family,
I'm sad to hear of the passing of your Mom who I know was well loved and cherished by you all. Listening to your stories of family scrabble game nights and visits to Gander with Nanny Cherry taught me the great love your family shared and about the wonderful woman who was the center of it. My thoughts and prayers are with you all now as you remember her and celebrate her life.
