Obituary for Vera Pearl Saunders

Passed away peacefully at the James Paton Memorial Health Center on September 11th 2020, Vera Pearl Saunders, age 70.

No stranger to hard work and a zeal for adventure, Vera pursued various careers in her life. She was fun loving, had a sense of humor that put people at ease and had great compassion for anyone who was going through a difficult time in life. She was passionate about the outdoors, loved fishing, playing guitar and photography. Her love of travel took her to Victoria, BC in the 80’s, where she put down roots for many years.

Predeceased by her parents, Edgar and Ida (Stroud) Saunders of Glovertown, sister Margaret-Rose Saunders, brothers Andy Wayne Saunders and Norman Saunders, and brother-in-law Lawrence Wood.

Left with many wonderful memories are her Daughters Dawn (Gerard) McCarthy of Toronto, ON; Dale (Dave) McCarthy of Ottawa, ON; stepson David McCarthy of Toronto, ON; sisters Cynthia Wood of Rhode Island; Harriet McLellan of Corner Brook, Elsie (Roy) Hanson of Victoria, BC; Sheila Saunders of Duncan, BC; brothers Manual (Anne) Saunders of Glovertown, Harold (Jocelyn) Saunders of Gander; grandchildren, Sarah, Ashley, Nicole, Rebecca, Kayla, Johnathon; great-grandchildren Devon, Dante, Satori, Devonte, Riley, Kashton; a large circle of (great) nieces, (great) nephews, friends and family; lifelong friend and sister-in-law Peggy Saunders, dear friend Sherry Mutford and sister-in-law Debbie Falardeau.

Vera’s family would like to thank the many wonderful Doctors, Nurses and support staff at both James Paton Memorial Health Center in Gander, and the Health Sciences Center in St. John's, as well as support staff from Rosemore Home Care Services.

Cremation has taken place and an intimate graveside gathering will follow, at the (old) Faith United Church Cemetery in Glovertown, on Sunday September 13th at 2:00 pm. All are welcome to join, in celebration of Vera’s life. Due to Covid 19 restrictions there will be no public reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to charity of one's choice or plant a tree in her memory.
