Obituary for Mary Laura Holmes

July 30, 1938 – October 18, 2020

Mary Laura Holmes went to her heavenly home on October 18, 2020 with her family by her side at James Paton Memorial Hospital. Mary was born July 30, 1938 to Joseph and Susannah Barnes of Horwood, NL. At the young age of 16 she married the love of her life, Andrew Holmes. Mary loved her Lord and her family with all of her heart. She was a dedicated member of the Gander Salvation Army Citadel and a dedicated mother and grandmother whose family was her life.

Mary was predeceased by her loving husband, Andrew Holmes; parents Joseph and Susannah Barnes; parents-in-law Frank and Louise Holmes; sister Janet and brothers Stanley, George, Jim, Pleaman, Walter, Charles and Wilfred.

Left with loving memories are daughter, Susie (Edward) Boyd, of Horwood, NL and son, Jamie Holmes (Billie Jo Anne Weir), of Wilmot, NS; granddaughters Christina (Allan) Hoffe of Gander, NL, Tina (Sheldon) Pollard of CBS, NL and Tammy Boyd of Lloydminster, SK; great-grandchildren Ashley (Nathan) Gillingham, Renee Boyd, Alex Hoffe (Miranda Blandford), Joey Cole, Rylee Pollard, and Ryan Pollard; and special great-great-grandson Greyson (aka “the baby”), as well as her special sister, Carrie Bennett, a large circle of extended family and friends and the residence and staff of nightingale manner.

Visitation will take place at Stacey’s Funeral Home, Gander on Tuesday October 20, 2020 between the hours of 1-4p.m. Due to the Covoid-19 restrictions we ask for your patience during visitation times. Funeral service will take place on Wednesday October 21, 2020 from The Salvation Army Church, Horwood, with interment to follow at the Salvation Army Cemetery. Due to Covid-19 funeral service will remain to INVITATION ONLY.

The family would like to thank JPMH ICU Nursing Staff and Dr. Ghasemi for the amazing care during mom/nan's brief stay, Major Rex Colbourne for his visits, Major Linda Janes for her support the last day and everyone who called and/or sent messages.

As expressions of sympathy in lieu of flowers donation in Mary’s memory may be made to The Salvation Army Church, Horwwod Memorial Fund.
