Obituary for James (Jim) Freake

James (Jim) Freake
September 7th, 1930 – December 11th, 2020

It is with great sadness that the family of James (Jim) Freake announces his passing at James Paton Memorial Hospital on December 11, 2020.

Born in Northern Arm, Jim moved to Gander in the1950’s where he raised his family and resided until his death. He loved the outdoors, enjoyed trouting and setting a snare. He had a quick wit and loved a chat especially about his beloved grandsons and the Detroit Red Wings.

Jim was a talented singer and loved music. He was a member of both the men’s and mixed choirs of Fraser Road United Church. He was also a member of the Masonic Fraternity and took tremendous pride in the fellowship and work.

He was predeceased by his parents Frederick and Bessie (Langdon): wife Geraldine (Batson); mother-in-law May Batson, stepbrothers Donald, Eneas, Malcolm, Mark, Fred and Lester: stepsisters Florence, Maud, Phyllis and Ethel.

He leaves to mourn his daughter Beverley and son-in-law Brian Burt, most cherished grandsons Michael (Meghan) and Max (Sasha) and adored great-grandsons Ryker and George; sisters-in-law Dolores Burt and Doreen (Lorne) Green; as well as a large number of nephews and nieces.

The family would like to thank the staff of Nightingale Manor and the medical staff of James Paton Memorial Hospital for the care and support they have offered.

Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to Fraser Road United Church
