Obituary for Heber Luke Lush
LUSH, HEBER LUKE (1934-2020)
DOB: Jan. 5, 1934. Died Monday, Dec. 28, 2020.
With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather and brother: Luke Lush, of Gander, at age 86. He departed his earthly home peacefully on Monday afternoon to arrive rejoicing on Heaven’s shore. Left to mourn are: sons Jim (Viola) and Philip of Gander, Bob (Sandy) of Sarnia, Ont., daughter Jan Hoddinott (Dan) of Vaughan, Ont.; grandchildren Blair Hoddinott, Samantha Wellbelove (Dan), Kurtis Lush (Allie Bogart) and Kevin Lush (Zoë Stylianou) of Ontario, and Hannah Lush of Gander; brother Fraser Lush (Yvonne) of Port Hope, Ont. and sister Betty Burt (Clyde) of Gander; brother-in-law Harvey Rideout (Doris) of Conception Bay South and sister-in-law Donna Rideout (Roxanne Wareham) of Indian Arm; nephews, nieces and extended family. He was predeceased by Grace, his beloved wife of 51 years, parents Charles and Evelyn Lush, sisters Audrey Vacca and Eloise Baird, and brother Charlie.
Born on Pinchard’s Island, Bonavista Bay, Luke moved to Gander with his family when he was a boy in 1941. His career was centred around the airport, first with Seaboard Aviation and then as a member of the Fire and Rescue department until retirement. He also served as a volunteer firefighter and sat on various civil committees, and was a pillar of Gander Evangel Pentecostal Church, where he is fondly remembered for his years in Crusaders leadership, the on-air voice of the Wings of Faith radio broadcast and other church offices.
Resting at Stacey’s Funeral Home, Gander. Visitation is 1 – 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 30. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 31 at Evangel Pentecostal Community Church, 130 Magee Rd., Gander (registration required). Interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery. Flowers are accepted, or donations may be made in Luke’s honour to The Gideons International of Canada.
