Obituary for Lillian Blanche Cooper (nee Gardner)
Lillian Blanche Cooper (Gardner) passed peacefully away at James Paton Memorial Hospital on Sunday, April 11th, 2021, at the age of 99.
Predeceased by her parents William and Martha Gardner of British Harbour; her husband Edward Cooper of Ireland’s Eye, daughter Lily (John), son Derek (Kay) and siblings Mary, Gladys, Leone, Ralph, Bill and George. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, her remaining children: Yvonne (Fraser Lush) of Port Hope; Gail (Terry Miles) of Middle Sackville; and David (Coreen Cooper) of Stittsville. Her grandchildren: John, Jennifer, Martha, Andrew, Angela and Elizabeth; Paul and Tammy; Joanne and Jessica; Stephanie and Danielle; and Marissa and Eric; step grand-children Darren and Terri-Lyn. As well as twenty-one great grandchildren; five great, great grandchildren; and a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends.
Blanche was born in British Harbour on October 16th, 1921. She moved to St. John’s at a young age and proudly worked in service with the Crawford Family before she married her husband Ed and moved to Gander where they raised their family over the years. Blanche Cooper was a devoted member of St. Martin’s Anglican Church and an active part of the ACW. She enjoyed giving back to the Gander community through her church and the Hospital Guild. Blanche had an active life helping friends and driving them to church and other events until her eyesight prevented her from driving in her early 90s.
She was a skilled seamstress and baker, who was well known in Gander for making wedding dresses, graduation dresses, and many a wedding cake. She found great pleasure in her love of bowling and card playing; as well as cooking and baking for her friends and grandchildren. If you visited her home, you often left with a good loaf of bread. She loved to travel and was more than willing to tell you about her cruise adventure with her older sister Mary.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the doctors and nurses at the James Paton Memorial Hospital for the care and attention they gave her in her last days. Our sincere appreciation as well to the staff at Nightingale Manor, where she resided, for all their care and support over the past six years. The family also want to acknowledge the support provided by her grand-daughter Tammy Cooper (Michael English) of Gander over the past six years. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. Due to the Pandemic restrictions, a celebration of her life will take place at a later date when her family can all be together.
