Obituary for Donald William Lahey

Donald William Lahey

Surrounded by family, Donald William Lahey passed peacefully away on April 21, 2021 at the age of 80. He is predeceased by his parents Michael and Bridget, and three siblings, Regina, Brian, and Doreen.

His wife of 52 years and his children were everything to him. Left with all the wonderful memories are wife Anne (Carroll), son Donny, daughter Jennifer (Bernie Doyle), and his cherished grandchildren Jack, Luke, Sophie, and Charlotte.

Leaving to mourn are sisters Lorraine, Peg, Daphne, Dale, Diane, Sharon and Valerie, brothers Barry and Blair, and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He also leaves behind daughters Michelle and Donalda.

Don lived a lifetime and then some in his 80 years. Born December 15th, 1940 on Bell Island, he spent most of his working life in Gander as a proud Light & Power B’y and was well respected by colleagues and friends.

When he had a voice, it was a beautiful one that sang old country songs. He was a master carpenter who could build anything. He loved a good time and was often the first one on the dance floor and the last one to leave. He had a million stories and loved to laugh.

Don was loving, kind, gentle, hardworking, meticulous, and stubborn! He believed that anything worth doing was worth doing right. The road he travelled was not always easy, but he approached it in a way that encouraged his kids to be the best versions of themselves.

So much respect and gratitude for the care teams at James Paton Memorial Hospital, St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, and the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Clinic.

Cremation has already taken place. A memorial service will take place on Friday August 5th at 11:00 am at St Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Gander for those who are able to come together to celebrate his life. In his memory, donations can be made to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation.
