Obituary for Harrison Norman Wicks

It is with immense sadness that the family announce the death of Norman, who passed away at the James Paton Regional Health Centre, Gander, on 21st April 2021 at the age of 76 years.

Predeceased by his wife Sadie, son Norman and daughter Frances, parents Henry and Rebecca, sister Frances and brother Joseph. Left with loving memories are his partner Stella, sons Harrison (Cayla), Craig (Carol), Cheyane (Krista), daughter Melinda (Dave), brother Melvin (Grace) sister Mae, grandchildren Amelia, Colin, Amber, Chelsi, Chadrick, Bredy, Brandi, Jenna, Mackenzie, Zachary, great grandchildren Ella-Jean, Nazeer, Khadija, Easton and Hennley, and a large circle of family and friends who were special to him.

Norman was born on 9th January 1945 on Silver Fox Island in a community that lived off the sea and the land. He was proud of his heritage. The values instilled by his fore bearers were the ones that followed him through life, and that he instilled in others: hard work; generosity and kindness to your fellow man; and never give up. He handed this on to his children and others for which they will be eternally grateful since it has made them resilient on their journeys through life.

He later moved to Hare Bay (as part of the Resettlement Program) and then Appleton before settling in Victoria Cove. He spent all his working years in the forestry industry starting at the bottom and learning the trade before establishing his own business. He was never happier then when he was in the woods and even after he retired, he still loved this, and a chainsaw was never far away…safety equipment optional at this point of course and his Crocs the chosen footwear!

He worked hard (many days daylight to dark) to provide for his family, who he loved dearly and was exceedingly proud of. He loved to spend time with family and friends and enjoyed a good discussion, which invariably took place over a cup of tea and a good meal.

A visitation for the public will be held at Stacey’s Funeral Home, Gander on Monday, 26th April between 1:00pm and 4:00pm that will follow the government guidelines for the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. A private funeral service will be held on Tuesday, 27th April 2:00pm at Wings Point Pentecostal Church with the interment to follow in the Cemetery. As expression of sympathy in lieu of Flowers, donations in Norman's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
