Ray was raised in Nipper's Harbour, NL with his brothers, and worked many years in the fishing industry, travelling from port to port with the Town of Old Perlican, NL, being his most favourite place to dock. Ray enjoyed travelling throughout the island in his Black Trans Am with the gold trim, or riding his skidoo in the back country. His travels also brought him to Calgary, where he worked in construction for a short time, and then returned to Newfoundland and remain inland doing construction and clearing farm land. Ray lived his final years in Central Newfoundland, where he met his “best friend” Avery who was two years old and daughter of Erica Gillingham. Ray and Avery shared a very unique and beautiful bond that demonstrated the true meaning of friendship, despite the age difference. Ray was in Gander Keyin College, working towards his goal of being a Diesel Mechanic, where his kind and gentle personality was loved by the instructors and fellow classmates. Ray’s circle of friends continued to grow after his cancer diagnosis, including the doctors and nurses at the Bliss Murphy Cancer Center and the nurses at the JPMH, all of whom shared a great admiration and respect for his strength and determination in his fight against this terrible disease.
