Nicholas John Critchlow (June 17, 1958 – April 30, 2021)

It is with great sadness that the family of Nicholas (Nick) John Critchlow announce his sudden passing on April 30th, 2021, at the age of 62 in Gander, NL.

He leaves behind his mother, Berna Critchlow, siblings Tom (Michelle), Jane (Stan), and Sarah, cousins Stephen (Irene) and Richard (Teresa) Turner of Stone, Staffordshire, England, nephews Cameron and Aidan and nieces Emma and Sophia.

Predeceased by his wife, Dorothy (Hunt) and father, Bert Critchlow.

He is remembered fondly by many friends and family as a kind and gentle soul who loved a good laugh. Nick worked formerly at Atlantic Asphalt in Gander and as a chef in various locations throughout the Maritime provinces as well as on fishing vessels, including a trawler in the North Atlantic Ocean near Greenland. While living in Truro, he was awarded a certificate of appreciation for his volunteer work coaching soccer by the premier of Nova Scotia.

He loved nature and the sea and could often be found walking around Gander and hiking at one of his favourite spots, Cobb’s Pond, or at his camper at Shalloway, Musgrave Harbour. Nick enjoyed reading, cooking, and listening to music, in particular the tenor Andrea Bocelli, and was a dedicated Habs (Montreal Canadiens) and Manchester United football fan.

Cremation has taken place, A memorial service will be held for Nick at a future date.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Nick can be made by performing a random act of kindness in Nick’s name or by a donation to either the Rotary Club of Gander Cobb’s Pond Foundation or the Native Friendship Centre, St. John’s, NL.

I met Nick during our walks around Cobbs Pond Park, his love of nature, dogs and certainly football was the source of many a conversation. I will miss our chats as we solved many of the problems of the world. He was a kind and gentle person. Rest in peace my friend.

I met Nick virtually, through a mutual friend and we communicated via Facebook. He was an amazingly kind soul. So proud of his nephew Cameron. My son is a goalie (mostly coaching now :) but when we spoke, hockey was one of the topics. I know that he loved Dorothy and Buddy so much, he also spoke of them often.

I am so sorry for your loss. He is missed by many.
