Obituary for Stephen Warren Strong
Passed peacefully away on Tuesday May 18th 2021 Stephen Warren Strong of Gander, NL. He was 98 years old. He is predeceased by his parents Thomas and Jane Strong of Old Perlican TB, NL and is the youngest of seven children. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 69 years Audrey Strong, his son Warren (Claris) and his daughter Jane (Edward), four amazing grandchildren Stephen (Judith) Quebec City,Kimberly (Alan) Moncton, NB, Grant in California and Rocky who lives in Gander.
He also has five great-grandchildren Michael, Lana, Alice, Isabelle and the youngest Thomas. They brought an extra twinkle to his eye whenever he spoke of them.
Stephen was a teacher. His life was devoted to his students whom he poured his best into for about 40 years. He was so proud of their accomplishments, always commenting as he saw their lives unfold. He was one of the earliest graduates from Memorial when the university had only 400 students. At that time to earn a degree he would have been stationed around the province and do summer school. His earliest posting was Gooseberry Island where at 17 he became the teacher and the minister when necessary. He finished most of his teaching career in Gander teaching Math to many students who tell us he was the best teacher they ever had.
He enjoyed music, gardening, church and especially driving around the island with the love of his life Audrey right up until he gave up his license at 97 years old.
Heartfelt thanks go to the staff at Nightingale Manor for their care over the past few years. As well, thank you to the wonderful nurses and doctors on the Orthopedic floor at JPMH.
Resting at Stacey's Funeral Home Thursday May 20th 10:00 am – 11:30 am and Friday 10:00 am – 12 noon. Funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm at the Evangel Pentecostal Community Church. Interment All Saints Cemetery.
