Obituary for Lilian Mercer
Lilian Es-Me (Goldsack) Mercer, February 8- 1940-June 9 2021
Passed away at James Paton Memorial Hospital.
Predeceased by her husband Thomas, her parents Stephen & Edith Goldsack, parents in-law Joseph & Emma Mercer, her sisters Margaret North & Phylis Dawney, & her brother Eric Goldsack. Also pre-deceased by brothers in-law Richard North, Jack Dawney, & Gerald Mercer, sister in-law Margaret Mercer as well as nephew Kevin Dawney.
Left to mourn is her daughter Denise Elliott, sons Alexandre(Lori) Mercer, & Steven Mercer, grandsons Christopher(Christine)Elliott, David Elliott, & Andrew Mercer, granddaughters Stephanie(Andrew) Hiscock, & Melissa Mercer, & her great grandchildren: Alexander, Chelsea, Cameron, Hannah, & Heidi. Also, her brother Stephen(Trish) Goldsack, brothers in-law Robert(Doris) Mercer, Reginald(Doris) Mercer, Carl(Gloria) Mercer, Scott(Mary)Mercer, & sisters in-law Phylis Luff, and Barbara Goldsack, & many nieces & nephews.
Born on the channel coast In Folkestone, England. Fourth of five children of Stephen & Edith(Kosh) Goldsack.
As a young woman working in a restaurant owned by a friend’s family she met her future husband, a Canadian serviceman, Thomas Mercer. They married in 1958 & raised three children together. Their marriage lasted nearly 60 years, until Tom’s passing in 2019.
Her many tales of wartime childhood in England, & of how she enjoyed travelling when Tom was in the Canadian Armed Forces have entertained us over the years.
She cherished her grand/great grand children.
She always enjoyed a good game of cards, a feed of lobster, and a meal of fish & chips (anyone who has her fish & chips will tell you that no one could cook it like Lily!).
She would always get upset, and correct anyone who dared spelled her name with an extra “L”. Its Lilian NOT Lillian!
Her strength, determination, & stubbornness left us all in awe! She has fought her way through illness & injury so many times, it’s hard to accept that she is actually gone.
She always said “I don’t want flowers when I’m dead! I want them while I’m alive so I can enjoy them.”
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Janeway Childrens Hospital.
In keeping with her wishes cremation has taken place.
