Obituary for Phyllis Foley

Phyllis Mary Foley
February 9th, 1956 – December 31st, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of a dear wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister -in-law – Phyllis Mary Foley, age 65 on Friday December 31st , 2021 at the Health Science Centre, St. John’s, NL.

Phyllis leaves to mourn her loving husband Clarence, her son Craig (Marlene), grandsons Kaleb and Noah Foley, her son-in-law Nicholas Cantwell, granddaughter Charlotte Cantwell and grandson Jonas Cantwell.
Phyllis is predeceased by her daughter Charmaine (Foley) Cantwell (December 19th, 2021), her parents Patrick and Margaret Mahoney, brother-in-law Herbert Burke, parents-in-law Herbert and Agnes Foley, brothers-in-law Gary and George (infancy) Foley, sister-in-law Johanna Foley.

Phyllis is lovingly remembered by siblings Naish Pickett (Mary), Ann (Allan Foley), Clara Burke (Dennis), Walter Mahoney (Rosalie), Wayne Mahoney (Brenda) and Gus Mahoney. Sisters-in-law Bridget Bowen (Jerome), Mary Van Wageningen (Jacob), Claire Hurley (Martin), Laura Foley, Judy Freake (Neil), Patricia Sharron (Wayne), Maxine Roberts (Tony), brothers-in-law Kevin Foley (Mena), Gerard Foley (Darlene), Gordon Foley (Adriana).

She will also be remembered by many special nieces and nephews and a large circle of other relatives and friends.

Phyllis’ love of life was evident in her enjoyment of travel especially visiting her children and grandchildren. Even through her lengthy struggles with her health she embraced it with her utmost strength, courage and faith. She has left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

She loved to spend time at their summer home in Tilting, Fogo Island and it was there she found solace and relaxation to help her through difficult days. It is where she grew up and would spend time with her lifelong friends.

Her singing voice was a joy to behold and music was indeed her comfort zone through her illness

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for the exceptional care provided over the past years by the James Paton Memorial Hospital Gander, The Gander Community Health and Home Care team, Health Science Centre, St. John’s and the Fogo Island Healthcare Center. Your dedicated care and compassion will not be forgotten. Thank you to Father Hearn for his prayers and concern, his many visits to the hospital and their home over the past while. Thank you to Stacey’s Funeral Home, Gander.

Cremation has taken place.

Visitation Wednesday May 11th at Stacey's Funeral Home, Gander 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm . Masks are mandatory at families request.

Funeral service , Friday May 13th , 11 am at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church ,Tilting, Fogo Island.
