Obituary for Mary Dorraine Sheppard

Passed peacefully away at James Paton Memorial Hospital with family by her side, Mary Sheppard of Gander, age 95 years. She was born in Boston, MA on May 16th, 1926 to Frank and Winnie Pike of Harbour Grace, NL. She returned to Harbour Grace at an early age and after finishing school, she pursued a career in hair dressing and owned and operated her own business for 29 years. She married her best friend, Alfred Sheppard on July 26th, 1950 and was a devoted wife for 54 years. She moved to Gander in 1970 where she raised her family and had many friends. She loved her church and was President of St. Martin's A.C.W and a member for over 35 years. She was a volunteer at James Paton for 33 years where she loved helping and caring for others.

Pre-deceased by Parent's; Frank and Winnie Pike, Husband; Alfred Sheppard, Son's; Bruce Sheppard (infant) and Lindsay Sheppard, Brother; Don Pike and numerous family and friends. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, Daughter; Mary Elizabeth Shea (Neil), Sister; Rowena Haynes, Granddaughters; Danielle Chaulk (Stephen), Sara Anstey (Jamie), Shannon Sheppard and Shayla Sheppard. Great Grandson; Mark Anstey. Daughter in Law; Maureen O'Rourke and her children Erin and Liam. Sister-in-law; Jane Sheppard and many nieces, nephews, other family and special friends.

Resting at Stacey's Funeral Home , Gander Friday April 1st 7-9 pm (mask are mandatory at families request) . Funeral service Saturday at 2 pm at St Martins Anglican Cathedral, Gander .

Resting at Noel's Funeral Home Harbour Grace, Sunday April 3rd 2-4 and 7-9 pm . Funeral service Monday April 4th , 2pm at St. Paul's Anglican Cathedral Harbour Grace. Interment Anglican Cemetery .


We would like to thank the management and staff of Nightingale Manor and the staff of the Medical Unit at James Paton Memorial Hospital in Gander. A special thank you to Rev. Jim Beaton who was not only her clergy but a close friend.
