Obituary for Edgar Lewis Burton

Edgar passed peacefully away on April 7th, 2022 at Lakeside Homes with his daughter by his side.

Edgar or "Eg" or "Pop", was born May 1st 1933 in Greenspond NL. He moved to Glovertown at a young age, and then on to Gander at age 12. His family lived at the Old Gander Townsite. They eventually moved to "new Gander" and after a couple of different homes he built his house on Medcalf Street using material from the buildings that were dismantled on the old "Army Side". He settled there with his wife Margaret (Churchill), daughter Gail (Noseworthy) & son Leslie.

Edgar worked for Eaton's and also his father's trucking company, Lewis Burton & Son, for many years. When his father passed he took over the business and continued on with his son Leslie. Edgar also drove a school bus for may years, usually on the Bennett Drive/Gander Bay Road runs.

He was a hard worker and a quiet man. In his retirement he spent many mornings at McDonald's having a chat with "the boys" and gathering pallets. He would spend hours in his garage sawing them up and enjoying his time out there. In his younger years he loved to fish on the Gander River as well as trips to Labrador. Anyone that had the pleasure of meeting Pop knows how kind, gentle, sweet and generous he was. He was amazing and will be missed by many.

Edgar is survived by his wife of 67 years, Margaret, his daughter Gail (Gerald Noseworthy) and daughter in law Debbie Burton. Granddaughters; Jeanette (Glen Squires) & Jennifer (Austin Haines). Grandsons; Brian Noseworthy (Amanda), Shawn Burton (Heather) & Eric Burton. Great-grandchildren; Shaunae Squires (Daniel Allen), Sienna Squires, Issac Haines, Tyler Haines, Ashton Noseworthy and Joshua Noseworthy, Adyson Burton and Jacob Zevenhuizen. Also a large circle of family and friends.

Edgar was preceded in death by his son Leslie; his father, Lewis Burton; his mother, Charlotte (Hodnott) ; his brothers Dutton (Dut), Eric & Burt; and his sisters Stella, Lucy, Lorraine & Trixie.

Visitation will be held at Stacey's Funeral Home on Sunday, April 10th from 2:00 - 4:00.

A small graveside service will take place at a later date
No flowers by request.
