Obituary for John Elliott

ELLIOTT
John B. “Jack”
February 16, 1938 – May 23, 2022

It is with broken hearts but hearts filled with gratitude for a life well lived, that we announce the passing of John B. Elliott of Gander, NL. John (also known as Jack) was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

He was predeceased by his parents, Ebert and Ethel Mae, and young daughter, Nancy. Left with a lifetime of memories are his loving wife, Lorraine (Burt), daughter Lynda (Keith Manuel), sons Brad (Heather), Mark (Carrie); grandchildren: Adam, Greg, Anna, Jeff, Nicole and Mitchell. Remembered fondly by his sisters Millicent Collins, Yvonne (Wilf) Cluett, Muriel Chaytor, brother-in-law Neville Burt, sisters-in-law Marilyn Belbin and Patricia Burt, and dear family friend Stephanie McClellan, plus many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

John was born in St. Anthony, spending his early years at L’Anse aux Meadows. He spent most of his working career as a Meteorologist, then many hours volunteering his time to Fraser Road United Church, the Board of the Golden Legion Manor, Gander Consumers Co-op and Loon Bay Camp.

Spending time with family and friends was a highlight of John’s life. He loved the outdoors, especially time spent at Cull’s Harbour and Gambo Pond. Boating, snowmobiling, boil-ups, hunting, fishing and games; whatever the activity, it was an opportunity for John to express his kind and loving nature. He shared stories of his life and Newfoundland heritage with laughter and wisdom. Travelling was always a joy. Living in Germany and having travelled around Europe, several cross-Canada and North American road trips inspired meaningful memories that satisfied his sense of adventure. John loved seeing every nook and cranny of the road he travelled.

Family will be receiving friends at Stacey’s Funeral Home, Gander on Wednesday May 25th, 2022 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. Funeral service will take place on Thursday May 26th, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. from the Fraser Road United Church, Gander officiated by Reverend Stephen Matthews and for those who wish to attend but cannot make it, the funeral service will be livestreamed from Fraser Road United Church's Facebook page.
