Obituary for Dulcie Margaret (Marie) Lanning

Dulcie Margaret (Marie) Lanning
September 27th, 1934- July 1st, 2022

It is with great sadness, that the families of the late Marie Lanning, announce her sudden but peaceful passing at her residence, Gander, NL. Aged 87 years.

Marie was pre-deceased by her parents William & Blanche Langdon, brothers Stratton Langdon & Mervin Langdon and her sister Louise Coates.

Marie leaves to mourn her sister, Elizabeth Crompton, Ontario. Her children, Wayne (Georgina) Lanning of Gander, Mona (Howard) Rideout of Brantford, Ontario, Karen Lanning of Gander, Rob (Bev) Lanning of Gander, Kelly (Jerry) Walsh of Gander. Her grandchildren, Ryan (Jen) Lanning, Craig Lanning, Kim (Leroy) Rideout, Tina (Connor) Strickland, Mike Strickland, Adam (Alison) Lanning, James (Melanie) Lanning, Kayla (Bronson) Fortin, Kyle (Kelsey) Walsh, seven great grandchildren, special nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends which included her beloved coffee buddies.

Mom grew up in Northern Arm and shared stories about babysitting her younger sister “Bett”. While mom took good care of her little sister, she also told Bett that “she did not like her at all” because she had to take her in the stroller every day while she’d rather be playing with her friends. Mom and her twin brother “Stratt” would complete their homework at 4 o’clock every day after returning home from school. Their sisters Bett and Louise did not like this because they had to be very quiet during this time. When they got older all the siblings became very close and enjoyed each other’s company. Mom and Bett would spend a lot of time with their brother Mervin at his cabin and had fond memories of them all being together there.

Mom worked at Reitman’s for many years and made numerous long-standing friends there. Over the years, she took on the challenge of managerial duties and developed a great sense of fashion. Mom loved to look stylish for any occasion.

Mom was a frequent church goer and enjoyed many activities such as swimming, bowling, berry picking and knitting. Mom’s pass times included watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, America’s Got Talent, curling and her absolute favorite (that she would never miss!) was Dancing with the Stars.

She enjoyed the company of great friends and loved going for coffee or to Cobb’s Pond with them along with taking the occasional road trip or spending time at Gerry ‘s cabin together. Mom also travelled to many places with family or friends including Florida, Mexico, Jamaica, Quebec, Ontario, and BC. She also spent a lot of time in St. John’s visiting her sister Louise and special nieces.

Mom thought the world of her grandchildren/great grandchildren, never forgetting a birthday or special event, and there were many! She also cherished the several dogs in her life.

Mom will be forever loved and missed by all the hearts she touched.

As per mom ‘s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a small private family service at Stacey‘s Funeral Home on July 6th.Burial will take place on a later date where she will be laid to rest with her parents and siblings in Northern Arm.

As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to her church St. Martin’s Anglican Church, Gander or the Janeway Hospital, St. John’s.

To our mother: In life, we loved you dearly, in death we love you still. In our hearts you hold a place, no one else will ever fill.
