Obituary for James Hoddinott

It is with heavy hearts that we extend the passing of James Maxwell Hoddinott on August 28, 2022. Born October 13, 1936 he was known as Jim to most and Jimmy to others. Daddy, Dad, Pops, Poppy and perhaps a few that have drifted off through the dust of time. Today is for reflection and celebration.

Jim is predeceased by his soulmate, Peggy. The love of his life. Only ever separated by the brevity of life itself. Following fulfilling careers as a pharmacist and nurse, they traveled by camper. Like the wagon trains before them, winding and meandering as they migrated to the south west, United States to winter in Arizona. You may have heard a story. Their home from home. Along with his inseparable life companion of 54 years, Jim is fondly remembered by his children: Steve (Marilyn), Whitby Ontario. Geoff (Penny), Long Pond, NL and Karen (Blake) Ft. St. John, BC. Grandchildren: Ally, Tori (Dylan Steinberg-Cooper and baby on the way), Sam, Jack, Neil, Miles and Danika. Brother in law Stan Van Norden. Kelowna BC. It is here we acknowledge the recent passing of Jim’s sister in law, Pat. A beautiful soul and beloved companion to Stan. As long as there is memory, she will not be forgotten. Nieces: Debbie (who is predeceased by the champion, Tim Creaghan), Heather (Wayne Bryant), Cathy (Konrad Pimiskern) Grand Nieces and nephews: Elizabeth, Sydney, Samson and Jared. Along with family are the multitudes of friends from St John’s, where he grew up and Gander where he raised his family. And to his friends. Too many to mention, but you all hold special
places in our hearts and to whom we hold fond memories and special bonds.

Today we recognize and honor Jim Hoddinott. In sheds, campers, houses and yards, we think of the places he went, the people he met and the lives he touched. “We did everything we ever wanted to do”, he once said. No stone left unturned, you might say. That's life, old Blue Eyes.

Jim lived his best life and passed on from this ol’ sod as his wish, at home. He left with honor, perseverance and with loved ones at his side. The sun comes up, the sun goes down. All and all. Another day begins. One worth celebrating. A gentleman. Remembered in reverence. Rest in peace, Dad.

A visitation will take place at Stacey’s Funeral Home on Friday, September 2, 2022 from 2-4 pm.
