Obituary for Frederick "Fred" Hefford

HEFFORD
Frederick (Fred)
August 19th, 1941 – September 22nd, 2022

It is with profound sadness that the family of the late Fred Hefford announce his passing at A.M. Guy Memorial Hospital, Buchans, NL on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at the age of 81 years old. Fred was born in New Harbour NL on August 19, 1941 to parents Boyd and Annie Hefford but lived most of his life in Buchans, NL.

Fred was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and family man. Fred worked hard every day of his life whether he was working in the Buchans Mining Company LTD. / ASARCO Inc; the railway, or doing side jobs in Buchans. Fred helped others all the time. He also worked for Coleman’s grocery store unloading trucks for decades and did janitorial work for many years.

Fred was physically active and loved shovelling snow, being in the woods, fishing, and berry picking. Fred gave of himself and asked for little in return-maybe a beer. He enjoyed visiting Nova Scotia during Christmas time to see family. He loved watching Curling, The World Junior’s, and the Spengler Cup, routing for Canada. Fred’s generosity, kindness, hospitality, and sense of fun will be always remembered and cherished.

He was predeceased by his parents Boyd and Annie Hefford, Step-Mother Isabelle Hefford, Brother Lawerence Hefford and Step-sister Pauline Rowe.

Left to mourn is his loving wife, Peggy Hefford, Sons: Rob (Karyn) Hefford, Frederick (Lesley-Anne) Hefford, Daughter Laura (Dennis) Chipman, Brothers Gary, (Linda), Blondie, (Kay), Sisters Helen, Shirley, Sister-in-law Peggy Hefford, Step-siblings Madonna (Mike) Alvina, Graham (Zelma), Laura, Grandchildren Tyler, Jessica, Riley, Paige and Luke, and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the health care staff of A.M. Guy Memorial Hospital in Buchans for their excellent care and compassion.

Cremation has taken place and funeral service will be held at a later date.
