Elsie Orella Greene was a caring daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She passed away peacefully at James Paton Memorial Health Centre with her loving family by her side on Sunday, October 2, 2022, at the beautiful age of 100 years.
Elsie was born in Burnt Arm South on February 20, 1922 to Adolphus and Maude Budgell. At a very young age, her family moved to Botwood where she met the love of her life, Garnet Greene. Elsie and Garnet married in May 1938 and started their family shortly thereafter. Together they had five daughters: Vera, Joan, Gwen, Barbara and Marilyn.
Elsie enjoyed spending quality time with her family and close friends. She loved to play a game of cards, go to bingo, bowling and line dancing. She also cherished time baking, cooking, camping and enjoying life to its absolute fullest.
Elsie was also very active in her community and was involved in several organizations including the Fraser Road United Church Choir, the United Church Women’s Group, the Gander Senior’s Club and the Elk’s Royal Purple.
Elsie is predeceased by her parents, Adolphus and Maude Budgell; husband Garnet Greene; daughters Vera Young, Joan Fitzgerald and Barbara Elson; and other members from the Greene and Budgell families.
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, her daughters Gwen (Doug) Boyd and Marilyn Bartlett; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister Lillian Samson; and a large circle of nieces and nephews and other close relatives and friends.
The family of the late Elsie Greene would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff of Nightingale Manor and the medical staff at the James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre for the compassionate care they provided her and the family during her stay.
Resting at Stacey’s Funeral Home, on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. please note that at the family's request masks must be worn during visitation times. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery. Elsie will be forever remembered for her love of music, her willingness to lend an ear and a helping hand and her love for family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Elsie’s memory to the Fraser Road United Church.
