Obituary for Norma Allison Head

NORMA ALLISON HEAD (Tessier)

May 21, 1930 – December 31, 2022

It is with a broken heart, but with peace of mind that we announce the passing of our Mother, Norma Allison Head, at the age of 92. After a short illness Mom passed away peacefully with family by her side in St. John’s, NL on December 31, 2022.

She is predeceased by her parents William John Tessier and Constance Jane Tessier of St. John’s, her husband of 41 years, Beaumont Hamel Head, and sister Joan Laidlaw (nee Tessier). Left with a lifetime of memories are her two sons Brian (Peggy), and David (Valerie); grandchildren: Kathryn, Lindsay, Erika, Bryanna and Ethan; and great grandchildren: Sidnee and Jackson, plus a large circle of family and friends.

Norma was born in St. John’s and attended boarding school in New Brunswick. Upon returning to St. John’s, she fell in love with Hamel who was working for her father in the family business, Waterford Nurseries. They moved to Lewisporte after getting married and then on to Gander in the late 1950’s where they built their family home and raised their family.

Norma was a very active member in the community, especially with the Fraser Road United Church where she was a member of the United Church Women’s Club (UCW), the Social Club, as well as serving as a member of the Board.

Family was the most important thing to Norma, and she especially enjoyed the time spent in Eastport where we had the family summer home for over 30 years.

Family will be receiving friends at Barrett’s Funeral Home is St. John’s on Thursday, January 5, 2023 from 7:00- 9:00 pm and at Stacey’s Funeral Home, Gander on Friday, January 6, 2023 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm Funeral service will take place on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. from the Fraser Road United Church, Gander officiated by Reverend Stephen Matthews and for those who wish to attend but cannot make it, the funeral service will be livestreamed from Fraser Road United Church's Facebook page.

Norma would like to thank the staff at Meadow Creek Retirement Centre in Paradise where she lived since December 2013 and always felt very much at home.
