Matthew was always so proud to share and enjoy a loving and brotherly relationship with Sandy and Zachary Hillier, and numerous cousins and extended family members.
Matthew was born in Gander on April 11th, 1991 at the James Payton Memorial Hospital. Since then, Matthew could always be found in the shadow of his Father Dwayne, learning from him and doing his best to imitate every action that Dwayne modeled. Anyone who knew Matt knew his friendly demeanor, and he would strike up a chat with anyone he ran into here in town. He had a heart of gold, and would do anything for anyone that needed it.
Matthew loved to travel with Dwayne and Tonya. They had several trips to Cuba, followed by many trips to Ontario. Matthew also spent time living in St. Catherines, Ontario with his Mother Liz. He attended some of his junior high and high school years there, and when he returned some years later, he completed a Diploma in Tattoo Artistry. Matthew eventually returned home to Gander, to find the next adventure of his young adult life.
Matthew then met his now Companion Abby, and together they built a busy little life. Between work, children, and “around the loop drives” in his freedom mobile, he enjoyed the simple delights of his day-to-day life. He was a busy berry picker, a late-night gamer, a lakeside fisher, and a loving companion.
Matthew dearly loved his children, and his own were the light of his life. He was raised within a large family with strong family bonds, which resulted in him learning everything that he needed to be an incredible and loving Father. Dreden, Jessie and Claude will remember drives to the airport to watch the planes, trips to McDonald’s, time at the pool, and days at the beach.
His busy hands found him work at Rosie’s Restaurant and Bakery with Dwayne and Tonya. It was a family business, but the “Rosie’s Family” itself was a big part of Matthew’s life. He loved working under the direction of his dad, and was so proud to be a part of this successful team.
His most recent endeavor was a plan to go back to school, and to become a heavy equipment operator. Although this dream will not come to fruition, and his young life ended much too soon, we hope that he is still chasing new dreams wherever he may be.
