Obituary for Norman Squire

Norman
March 13, 1934 - January 21, 2023

The family of Norman Squire are deeply saddened to announce his passing at James Paton Memorial Hospital on Saturday, January 21/2023 at the age of 88 years 10 months.

Norman was born on March 13,1934 and from a very young age proved he was a hard worker at 5 years wheeling sawdust away from the mill. A few years later found himself on a fishing schooner off the coast of Labrador, then a few years later cutting pulpwood for Bowaters in central Newfoundland. It was then that he met his future wife Winnifred Beaton of Norris Arm North, daughter of Robert and Mary Beaton.

They were married on April 13,1956 and soon after welcomed their first daughter Olive on September 13,1956. It was about this time that Norm started working on power lines often working away from his family in Churchill Falls, Montreal, Vermont,USA and Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia.Then on June 6, 1960 Cathy their second daughter was born and on January 24 their only son Bruce was born.

Then in 1972 Norman started work as a linesman with Newfoundland Light And Power where he was employed for almost 20 years. Norman loved to build and in November of 1981 started construction of Squire's cabins located in Eastport. He built a night club in Traytown in 1993 and also built several homes for his family over the 65 years him and Winnifred were married . Sadly Winnifred passed away on July30,2021.

He was also predeceased by Parents Bidkar and Joanna,Brothers Elias, Arthur,Roy and sister Adeline.

Leaving to mourn are brother Andrew, sister Jane, sister-in-law Muriel Pickett, daughter Olive(Llewelyn)daughter Cathy (Eugene)and son Bruce (Samantha) 6 grandchildren,10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

In keeping with Norman's wishes, cremation has taken place with a service to be held at Stacey's Funeral Home.

As expressions of sympathy donation in Norman's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
