March 15th, 1944- March 23, 2023
We announce the passing of a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and Aunt after a year of battling several medical conditions on March 23. 2023.
Born in Frederickton, NL she was the daughter of the late Donald and Effie (Hancott) Wheaton. Edna is survived by her only son Andre (Pam) and her granddaughter Julia. Her sister whom she loved dearly, Louise Fagner(Cliff). Her brother-in-law Eugene(Melvina)Blackwood and sister-in-law Denise (Abbott) Wheaton and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Robbie, her parents, Don and Effie, infant brother Vaden and her brother Neil Wheaton.
Edna was a great cook and could cook up a meal to feed 2 or 20 in no time. If you ever visited her place and went away hungry that was your own fault. She made the most delicious homemade bread from scratch, there was no bread and roll mix ever found in her cupboards. Her homemade Pea soup was second to none. She loved to entertain whether that be at her house in Carmanville South or at the Cabin in Raft Pond. She loved singing and playing the organ. She even enjoyed playing a few hymns at the Salvation Army Church where they attended.
Edna was her husband's right hand man even though she was left handed. There wasn't anything she didn't do to help Robbie, cutting wood, gardening, bottling moose, muscles or pickles, painting or plastering she done it all. She was the only person I knew that didn't have a driver's license and could operate her Bravo skidoo like any man could.
She adored her only child, her son Andre and it's probably why he was such a good cook, he learned from the best. There wasn't anything she wouldn't do for Andre, Pam or Julia. She never spent a Christmas away from them and when those 5 were together it was nothing but laughter and good times.
When Julia her only grandchild arrived she never stopped smiling or talking about Nan's girl. She enjoyed when Julia learned to play the piano and played
Nan's organ when she visited. How many hours did she spend with Julia out on the back of her house down on the beach picking rocks and wrinkles with Julia and holding Julia's favorite doll “Rose”. Nan and Pop always made a point of coming to see Julia doing some activity whether it be a Christmas concert, playing piano in Church or at one of her sporting events.
Edna enjoyed her friends and neighbours and she had plenty. She loved reading her Downhome magazine and doing the puzzles in the back.
Her family meant the world to her and she was loved by all of her many nieces and nephews and her place in Carmanville was where everyone stopped when home on a vacation or in the area.
Many thanks to the Staff of Nightingale Manor who looked after her in the last year while residing at the home. Special thanks to Hayward Gillingham for being a special friend of Edna while living at Nightingale Manor.
