Obituary for Vanessa Irene Hodder

HODDER
Vanessa Irene
April 21st, 1993 – March 27th, 2023

It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the death of our precious baby girl, Vanessa Irene Hodder age 29 years old of Gander, NL. Vanessa passed away unexpectedly surrounded by her Mom, Dad, Sis and so much love on Monday March 27, 2023 from complications associated with her disability.

Vanessa was born on April 21, 1993 to Tina & Dexter Hodder at the Grace Hospital in St. John’s and was fiercely loved by the both of them. She will remain the brightest light in their lives as she now lives on in their hearts.

After graduating High School in 2011 Vanessa moved to St. John’s where she enrolled herself into the Office Administration program at Keyin College. From there that opened many doors for her and she went on to take more courses in youth and future skills programs aimed at helping others with disabilities.

Vanessa was such an old soul who touched the lives of everyone who had the pleasure of getting to know her. She loved her diet Pepsi and pickled wieners, listening to music, binge watching her favourite TV shows and Christmas was her absolute favourite time of the year.
She loved when it was time to put her Christmas tree up and filling her home with all things Christmas. She would spend hours just sitting back and taking in all the Joys of the Holiday Season. Ness was a little Diva deep down and enjoyed getting her hair and nails done as well as experimenting with make-up. She was a true natural beauty. Her alone time was another one of her favourite things. As much as she loved us and all the visits from her family and friends, she also enjoyed when we all left LOL.

Vanessa is predeceased by her grandfather Roy Hancott; great grandparents: Winnie & Claude Hicks, Lucy & John Hart, Arch & Clara Hodder and James & Ivy Hancott.

Vanessa is survived by her mom and dad Tina & Dexter Hodder; Sister Chantal (Matthew) Parsons, nephews: Shea, Reed & Tate Parsons, special cousin & Friend Vicki Hodder; grandparents Gilbert & Hazel Hodder and grandmother Gladys Hancott. Aunts: Janice Hodder, Kelly Hodder, Colleen (Grant) Richards, Kim Hancott. Uncles: Terry (Debbie) Hodder, Ricky (Jennifer) Hancott, Deon (Vanessa) Hancott. Cousins: Greg, Jillian, Matt, Ally, Stephen, Scotty, Sherry, Latoya, Leon, Mackenzie, Christopher and numerous other cousins, great aunts & uncles and friends who cherished her dearly.

We would also like to thank the countless healthcare workers who positively impacted Vanessa’s life. From her countless hours spent at the Janeway, the wonderful community supports and community health nursing staff who supported Vanessa to live independently at home. Special thanks to the staff at James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre, Gander ER & ICU departments and St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, St. John’s ICU where Vanessa spent her last days. Lastly a heartfelt thanks to her Amazing home support workers Jennifer, Rhonda and Alexis.
