Obituary for Ivan John
Ivan Lewis John
July 5, 1941 - April 14, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ivan John. Ivan passed away
peacefully at home on April 14th 2023 with his family at his side. He lost his battle to
cancer and kidney failure at the age of 81.
Ivan is predeceased by his parents; Eva and Louis John, as well as his beloved son
Rick John.
Left to mourn his passing with fond and loving memories are his son Jeff (Kim),
granddaughters Joanna (Chris) and Tonicia (Tyler), great grandchildren Hannah and
Hudson and a large circle of family and friends.
Ivan was born July 5th, 1941 to Eva and Louis John. He was raised in Glenwood with 9
siblings. He spent his whole life in the town of Glenwood and the joy of the Gander
River kept him in his hometown.
That is where he worked and he loved his job guiding at the lodge owned by J.B. Hand
and Sons on the mighty Gander River. He worked for the Hand’s family who treated him
just like family – especially Len Hand.
Ivan loved the outdoors and spending time on the river fishing, in the woods hunting,
trapping and pelting furs, riding skidoo and quad, enjoying time at the cabin. Most
importantly spending time with his most prized possessions, his great grandchildren
Hannah and Hudson.
He was a man of few words, who had a silly sense of humor to the very end, he will be
dearly missed and forever loved.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the kidney foundation will be greatly accepted and
appreciated.
Family will be receiving friends at St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church in Glenwood, NL
on Sunday April 16th, 2023 from 2pm - 4pm and 7pm - 9pm.
The funeral service will be held at St. Anne Roman Catholic Church in Glenwood, NL on
Monday April 17th at 11am.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Stacey’s
Funeral Home in Gander, NL.
