Obituary for Jessie Cooper

It is with profound sadness the family of Jessie Cooper announces her passing on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at Gander Long Term Care.
She leaves to mourn with many wonderful memories: her husband Aubrey, son Glenn (Debra), daughter Juanita (Don) and grandchildren Shannon, Alex, Joshua and Leah. A special mention to her neighbours in Gander, Maxine and Gord Wheeler who were like a daughter and son to her. Also, sisters-in-law: Nita Crocker, Rose-Marie March, and Beulah Cooper. She leaves behind a large circle of nephews and nieces who meant the world to her. She is predeceased by her parents, Bertram and Francis Porter, parents-in-law Ambrose and Elsie Cooper, sisters Pheobe and Belinda and brothers-in-law Harold, Fred and Ali.

Jessie was born in Port de Grave on January 31, 1936. She graduated grade 11 and attended Teacher College at Memorial University in St. John’s. While teaching in Blaketown, she met the love of her life, Aubrey. After dating for six years, they were married on July 5, 1961. They settled in Gander where they had their two children, of whom Jessie was so proud. She encouraged further education and always said that education is not a burden to carry around. Her life as Gran to her four grandchildren was something she enjoyed so much.

Jessie was a lifelong member of the Anglican Church Women Association and she was a volunteer with the Hospital Auxiliary. She loved volunteering and helping others any way she could.

When their children were grown, Aubrey and Jessie settled into a life of retirement and camping. Camping at Windmill Bight Provincial Park was her favorite place to be in the summer.

Jessie enjoyed a game of cards more than anything.

In keeping with Jessie wishes, donations to be made to the Alzheimer’s Society, 107-835 Topsail Road, Mount Pearl, NL A1N 3J6

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the staff of Gander Long Term Care and Golden Years Retirement Home for caring for Jessie during the time she was with you. Your kindness and caring will not be forgotten.

In honor of Jessie, share special memories and take some time to enjoy a game of cards together.
