Obituary for Mary Florence Barrett

August 9, 1930 – January 25, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Barrett on January 25, 2024, at the age of 93 years.

Loving mother to Daughter Susie Wheeler; son-in-law, David Wheeler, sons John Barrett, and Reginald Barrett. Daughter-in-Law Gloria Barrett; Sister-in-law Catherine Bennett. She will also be sadly missed by her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mary was predeceased by husband John Barrett, Step-son Bill Barrett, step-grandson Tyrone, great-granddaughter Caitlyin; Siblings, Edna (Bill), Hilda (Hal), Lily (Fred), Marg, William (Fron), Reginald, Arthur, and Steve (Pearl.

To Mary (Nan) the greatest thing was family. Despite our large family, she knew everyone’s birthday, anniversary, and any special occasion. Not only did she know these dates, Mary ensured everyone else knew as well. Mary (Nan) always ensured nobody was forgotten especially around Christmas with numerous sweaters, socks, mitts and blankets made and sent around the country.

Mary had many titles as listed above to so many people. However, the greatest title anyone could bestow would be that of Hero. To many of our family members, Mary was that. They say we should never meet our heroes. However, we were lucky to have our hero in our lives everyday. To everyone that crossed paths with Mary, were truly blessed.

There are no such thing as goodbyes, just see you later. You will surely be missed by everyone that knew you. Until we meet again may you always have an endless supply of Red Heart wool, oatmeal, wild berries (for puddings and muffins), and Robin Hood Flour.

We will love you forever, Nan. You will always be in our thoughts and in our hearts. Rest well Nan and until we meet again, we all love you.

There will be a small family service held at Stacey’s Funeral Home, Gander on Monday January 29th, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Terra Nova.
