Marie James. October 20, 1934 - October 31, 2024

It is with broken hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of our mom, Marie James, on October 31, 2024 at the age of 90 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital in Gander.

Marie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and a friend to everyone she met.

She is predeceased by her husband Gerald James; grandson Zachary James; sisters Edna Bennett and Violet Bishop; brother Jacob Jackson and other family and friends who she loved and adored.

Leaving to mourn and celebrate her life are her children Jerry James(Barbara), Dianne Trainor(Bill), Shawn James(Shyrl), Derrick James(Rita); grandchildren Sheldon James, Nerissa Pike, Sharmaine Trainor, Shantel Lynch, Shane James, Shandon James and Nicholas James; 11 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; along with brothers Albert Jackson(Alma) and Junior Jackson(Betty). Also sharing the loss are a large circle of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends including lifelong friends and neighbours Gerry and Marg Clouter and Phyllis Wiseman.

Marie was devoted to her family. Anyone who had the pleasure of spending time with her most certainly listened to her talk about the latest happenings with her children and grandchildren. She was very proud of each and every one of them. Her extended family and friends knew better than to pass by her home in Gander without stopping in for a visit. A lunch was always ready which often included a good pot of soup. No one left hungry.

Marie had a strong faith and her Church family was a very important part of her life. The foundation of her faith began as a child attending Church with her family in Cavendish and grew from there as she married and had a family of her own. She was well known for her love and kindness towards everyone she met. She would do anything for the people she held dear or anyone who was in need. There have been many who have been touched by her kindness and she has left a lasting impression on everyone she has encountered on her life journey.

Special thanks to the staff at Nightengale Manor and James Paton Memorial Hospital, especially Dr. Morin and her nurse Lorna Bath, who cared for our mom with dignity and compassion. Also special thanks to Major Wayne Loveless for his prayers and visits which meant so much to her.

Visitation will be held at Stacey’s Funeral Home in Gander on Sunday, November 3, 2024, from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00pm.

A funeral service to celebrate Marie’s life will take place at The Salvation Army Gander Citadel on Monday, November 4, 2024 at 2:00. Internment to follow at All Saints Cemetery.

As per Marie’s wishes flowers grateful accepted or donations in her memory may be made to The Salvation Army Gander Citadel.
